Nope, all of this is true. My autism knows no bounds. I first got recognition there by using a trick on boomkat.com, they posted full 320k mp3s as clips, inside of swf files. If you'd play it in the flash player on the site it would beep every 30 seconds, but you could use a swf decompiler and get the untouched file. This was heavily abused by scene groups (KOUALA/DEF) to rack up thousands of WEB releases without ever paying for them. Each swf file name had a number, so I figured out that the artwork had a number that was 1 less than the first track. You couldn't listen to clips of prerelease tracks but you could see the artwork, so I figured out you can get stuff that's not on sale yet by just increasing the number by 1. Other people knew this, but I abused it to leak prerelease tracks and gain efame.
After that shit fizzled out I moved to stealing passwords from producers/labels/djs

Getting old unreleased tracks is much harder than getting new ones. My best haul of those came when I breached a DJ's computer. I found out his email/password also worked for logmein.com, then I remoted into his PC when he was on tour in the US. I installed x-lite ftpd, it has upnp so I was able to get around being unable to log into his router and open a port.
Would probably be best if you can put some kinda RAT on their PC, but so many producers are macfags and I couldn't find anything commercially available.

Okay now that I've got your attention, I don't quite understand this concept. I know MP2 is supposedly the native format (some) radio stations (used to) use. But when it comes to digital ripping, why does it matter if you record to MP2 or MP3?
If the station is broadcasting a lossless master/source, you can record to any format. If the station is broadcasting a lossy format, supposedly MP2, you recording it to your own MP2 format is essential transcoding.
If it's an internet radio, then I understand you can extract the actual AAC itself and remux it into M4A, avoiding the transcode step.

It's this way with any digital audio. This includes YouTube. YT stuff is a transcode because the original file that gets uploaded to the site likely contains lossy audio. I think they also do a high pass filter on it as a concession to the music industry, it's been like that for a long time.
Anyway in this case you'd want to get access to a digital stream from dvb-s, dvb-t, dvb-c or dab. The first three are preferable because they have higher bit rates.

Shit I misread your post. I'm kinda tired. No, you do not match the source's bitrate and sample rate. If you do another encode you are transcoding. You need to capture the original data from the stream without encoding it, you know, like saving a picture from 4chan to your hard drive gives you the original file untouched. But if you open it in mspaint and click save you're recompressing it, which loses quality. Same concept with an audio stream. You can just dump the data directly to your hard drive without reencoding it. This is what is done with mpeg 2 radio streams from satellite, terrestrial broadcasting, or cable. Easiest way is a DVB-T stick which you can get on ebay for like $10. You can also use a satellite dish with a pc dvb card or the web streaming interface on a dreambox, concept is exact same for cable. They have some USB receivers for DAB too but the bitrate is only 128, less desirable.

Okay I think I understand. The vital piece of information I missed was that rippers are using special hardware to intercept the signal and just dump audio information straight to MP2 file. I thought they were using Audacity, pressing record and saving it to a new MP2 file, this is why I was pretty sure this results in transcode.
I now have another issue. I have some radio rips in native MP2 48khz and some in lossless FLAC 44.1khz. Which one is actually truly native, original, and master? Since MP2 was decided to be native, does that mean the FLAC 44.1khz versions were tampered with or incorrect?

I still love the few old scene rips of DJ Flight's shows on 1xtra that I've managed to keep for all these years, they're obvious transcodes (mp2->mp3) but they still sound fantastic to me.

This last year, I have used Feral, Feral SSD, Seedboxes.cc, Seedhost.eu and PulsedMedia.
Seedhost.eu is the market leader, followed by seedboxes (which is most expensive). Feral comes third.
Feral has a problem that it is over subscribed, and poor at connecting to other peers. There can be 50 peers in a initial download, Feral will strangely only connect to less than half. Seedhost will connect to all peers, and that is how it consistently wins even vs Feral SSD.

It's really not hard to build up a buffer using even the crappiest 100mbit kimsufi box, I've done it multiple times. Common sense and autodl will get you far.
