I5 4690k + 8800gtx while I waited for my Gtx 970, after my r9 270x broke.
Also athlon x2 3800+Gtx 970 as a joke.
I7 4790k and GTX 860m
Put the i7 in my Alienware Alpha to see what would happen. Never overheated or anything. Just throttled when using all 4 cores.

Xeon [email protected]/[email protected] with r9 290 for a year or so , got a mad deal on i5 4460 and h97 board so I'll be switching to that now.
Starting cpu on that mobo was e8500

Currently using a i7-5820K @ 4.6ghz with a ATI HD4890 2GB.
Waiting for Greenland.
7870K with a 290x.
I made a budget build and a few months later came across a $200 290x.
It works great, waiting on the final verdict on Zen before upgrading.
