Is Avast good anymore? I got a new computer and I remember how annoying as hell it was but it was decent for being free.
Any other good ones?
>>
If it's annoying you with little pop ups, just set it to game mode and it stops that shit.
>>
>>52040003
I tried it this month, but after 2 weeks it started saying my computer is unprotected, I need to buy the pro version and shit.

Fucking uninstalled.

Also the settings were horrible.
>>
I use super anti spyware free. Dont need proactive antivrius, just run it regularly and if i think i just did something sketchyon accident
>>
>>52040003
>try out avast
>send email
>they literally stick an ad into my email without notifying me first
fucking piece of trash
>>
>>52040003
avira, nod32 with trial keys, bitdefender free, qihoo 360
>>
Stop using third-party antivirus software.
Windows: UAC set to max and Windows Defender on
Linux: Don't run unknown shit at root
Mac OSX: Never used it outside a VM but probably the same as Linux

Just read the UAC/Root Access prompts and you'll be fine.
>>
>>52040003
What the fuck's wrong with MSE?
>>
>>52040003
Avast installs its own root SSL certificates, do not use it
>>
>>52042434
avast has really gone down the shitter huh?
thanks for the info
>>
>Needing a 3rd party adware to keep your OS somewhat secure.
>>
Avast has turned into nagware, and I'm 99% sure they monitor/record what sites you visit, as I would always get a pop-up for their VPN service whenever I was on xvideos, my bank's website, or empornium. They nag you to "register"your free use of the program, once every year, and still advertise to you after you do.

Literal garbage.
>>
>>52040003
Clamwin
>>
>>52040003
malwarebytes + windows defender
>>
>>52040228
Ur supposed to register it dumbass
>>
>>52044227
any more info on this ?
>>
>>52040003
Compared to other free alternatives? Yes.

Compared to paid alternatives? No.

I use it on my Windows partition as it works with defender unlike others which disable defender.
>>
>>52040003
I was using it up until about a month ago.
As an antivirus I found it great. I rarely had any false positives pop up and, once configured, it was relatively unintrusive.
But then they did stupid shit like what was mentioned in this thread.

I've just recently been trying Comodo but that shit throws out false positives like the pope is coming to town.
>>
>>52040274
Go control panel > change avast install > uncheck the email protection option.

Sometimes it pays to have brain and look before you click next.

>>52041278
Placebo just like AVG, doesn't detect shit.
>>
btw in an old AV discussion, someone said that somewhere in the /g archives, a MWB license could be found and used ... someone knows more about this ?
>>
>>52045591
don't fall for that meme. MWB does not have active protection enabled in free version. The paid keys are all in use or disabled, just wasting time with fake keys.
>>
>>52045498
http://www.clamwin.com/
All the info you will need
>>
>>52045563
It detects shit for me all the time, tho.
>>
>>52045650
oh, rly ?thx !
>>
>>52045650
>0.98.7 Released
Yeah... no.
>>
>>52045671
it allows a simple self-replicating worm that I got from my uni to spread across my system. it would hide original files and leave an endless trail of shortcuts behind.

Same usb inserted into an Avast PC, immediately wiped out the virus while MSE was busy jacking off. M$ has clearly stated that you should use a 3rd party AV alongside MSE, it is by no means securing your system.
>>
>>52045674
Only open source antivirus and there hasn't been any problems or false positives
>>52045673
If you use it, I suggest looking in the setting, I'm not sure if removal is on or off by default
>>
>>52045696
Oh, yeah I've seen shit like that. In those cases I just use common sense 2016.

Have you upgraded to the new version, yet?
>>
>>52045650
How is the rating for this AV? Does it have active protection or do I have to manually scan my system periodically?
>>
>>52045721
It is manual review from Cnet:http://download.cnet.com/ClamWin-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10369483.html, I use it and malwarebytes together to test it and it kept up perfectly, I believe clamav has window msi installers of you would like to look at it all
>>
>>52045797
I prefer adwcleaner, which is also manual and can recommend it.
>>
>>52045340
Which only helps them track my activities.

Into the trash.
>>
>>52046477
I have had issues with it being adware and haven't used it again
>>
>>52040228
Agreed. Shit. Having better luck with bitdefender
>>
i'm using avast 2016 right now, actually a key for premier till 2021. installed it and set it to not have any pop ups.

it is mid-way on resource use, but i have used it since avast 4.8 days.

i used eset nod32 for a while but that felt flimsy, and i went back to avast.

yes, the shilling is quite intrusive, but not something that should really bother someone who spends most of his days shitposting online.

the best feature of avast is boot-time scan. just run that once and you can rest assured that there is no more viruses on your system

If a had to suggest my favorite antivirus software, they would be -
for a top-spec system build - bitdefender
for a mid-spec system build - avast
for a low-spec system build - eset nod 32

Pretty sure there was an interview with Microsoft Security Essential's head a long time ago where he mentioned that Microsoft stopped aiming to be #1 on those top AV lists due to antitrust concerns.
>>
Avira seems to have gotten their shit together lately anon and it's free. Might wanna try that.
They got top marks in recent tests in detection and performance (AV-C)
>>
>>52041248
>enable UAC
>stuff made before UAC doesn't work or has to be run as administrator
What a useful technology.
