What kind of computer does your dad use?

>mfw his work computer is a Lenovo chinkpad
>>
>>52033156
My dad uses a desktop that I built for him in his home office. He does all his email, web browsing, and bookwork (he owns a small construction company) on it.
>>
How does it feel to have a Dad? I was my own dad since my grandpa passed away.

He's still using the T23 I handed down to him. 13.5 years old, falling apart, and all sorts of graphics issues with recent Linux distros.

asus f3e mostly

also has an old gateway laptop that runs windows ME and has a floppy drive. but that thing cant connect to the internet and is only used for financial spreadsheets on office 97
>>
>>52033156
His work does not involve computer of any kind, but he actually bought thinkpad x61 couple months ago to browse youtube
>>
He has one of those shitty dual core i7 meme machines. He has it hooked up to a monitor and keyboard and mouse so he doesn't need a shitty overpriced laptop anyway. He uses his iPad for anything portable.
>>
My old Studio XPS 16. It's a miracle that thing is still running with how hard he is on it. I refuse to even touch the thing cause I know I'll find his porn folder and the keyboard is probably caked with jizz.
>>
Del xps 13 he bought this year. His job is based around statistical analysis so he just bought the fastest thing he could (took him a year to do the research to want to buy it)

A 2007 Inspiron 6400 with SSD put in there and Mint MATE.

That thing is snappy as fuck and I am amazed how such an old laptop can run so good.

He does use a thinkpad, I just got one from him. Basically all insurance/protection agency jobs use thinkpads. They're cheap and versatile, you big dummy.

My mum's husband uses some HP shit from like 2007.
>>
My dad has a 2010 27" iMac. It's got an i7, 8GB RAM, and a dedicated GPU, plus I put in an SSD last month. Works bretty gud

Meanwhile my mom has the base 2009 model with a C2D, 6 gigs of ram, and an HDD. it's fucking shit.
>>
My dad just upgraded from his 2007 Apple iMac to a brand new one. He has a tendency to hold onto his computers for far too long and always complained about having to run defrags and virus scans, so I convinced him to buy an Apple computer to replace his 1999 model NEC desktop that was beyond outdated.
>>
>>52033156
Dunno. I haven't seen him in 24 years

my dad uses his thinkpad for everything, he used to have a shitty vista laptop that he bought when vista was new and shiny, but he doesn't really need any of that. iphone and ipad is enough for him. i mean, he is up to date on everything, except a computer.
>>
>>52033156
A 2006 Toshiba satellite with vista.

He doesn't give a fuck, still works for him and that's all that matters.
>>
My dad was a jerk who happen to be into weird niche porn, from the pop ups that appeared on his computer. (Which happens to be a cheap prebuilt shit with windows xp, it was back in 2004).
I was hating him since childhood but the day I lost respect for him was when he locked me home alone once so I decided to use his computer to shitpost on msn messenger. His password was "password" into our mother-tongue.

Mom's dope, running some Ubuntu LTS w/ some gnome 2 fork (I guess it's cinnamon) and windows 7.

iPad.

Parents are pretty computerphobic; never could get a grasp of my old computer I set up so they could view family photos. Then I bought and old iPad, loaded everything onto that, showed them the basics and my dad instantly took to it. Though he spends most of his time on it on YouTube looking up gardening and carpentry stuff.

My old perfect Mint condition T410. 9 cell battery and 500gb wd black.

He is running Windows 7 pro only because the software he uses to tune the turbos on his car is a bitch to get working on linux.

He is rather rough with electronics at times and thus far, the laptop had kept up with him. Although he does know it was my daily driver before upgrading to something newer and saw how much I used to baby it so he takes better care of it than his other stuff.

He has an ipad that he cant work out and therefore never uses.

Anytime he wants something ordered from the internet, emailed to someone, read and article, he gets my mother to do it (articles he gets her to print out)

I've never met anyone so useless with technology.

My mother uses my old tower with a C2QX 9650, although it is no longer overclocked and has a cheap ass graphics card.
>>
Probook 6560b.
Works as a software engineer but the thing is slow as shit (mere than 3 full minutes boot time) because HDD and shitload of programs running at startup. He is planning to upgrade to an SSD and 8GB though.

He lately took a chinkpad r50p from his work that was collecting dust, unfortunately the power adapter was lost so I can't do anything with it.

Exactly what I thought when I had asked him what he upgraded to. My mind was blown.. Not to mention I can't believe he would even pay that much for one.

My dad can hardly use a computer at all, besides basic web browsing with speeddial. I built him a 200$ PC with some spare parts i had and hes using xubuntu now

My dad just uses what his company gives him for computers. He used to get all sorts of Thinkpads from his business, but I onloy really remember the T41, R61, and T420 he had. He had a couple before the T41, but I can't remember what model they were. Now he uses whatever the company grade HP laptop is. I haven't seen it, but it must be pretty decent.

We're both pretty sick of dealing with Linux, and we ditched Windows for good years ago. I really don't feel like trying to get OS X working on a ThinkPad (especially for someone else who needs it to "just work" and keep working reliably. As such, he's set on getting some sort of Mac or iPad to replace the T23. My mom's Early 2008 MBP is getting a bit dated as well, so both parents will probably be getting some sorts of new Apple devices within the coming months.
>>
I repurposed an old Macbook for him, one of those white Core 2 Duos. Only had 3 gigs of RAM and an 80GB hard drive lying around, and it only goes up to Lion. All he needs it for is Excel and very occasional internet use like email. Works perfectly for his needs.
>>
None cause he's ded.
>>
I won the parents lottery when I was born: both of my parents do IT + Programming professionally. Mom stopped when she had kids, but my dad still does and runs his own business.

My dad hadn't built a PC in a while because be was sick of dealing with the time it took up to build and troubleshoot when he could be making money doing work for clients instead. So he bought the parts he wanted recently and I put it together and troubleshooted it for him. He enjoys it.
