Why aren't procesors plug'n'play cards like GPUs,

Why aren't procesors plug'n'play cards like GPUs, with built-on coolers and pre-applyed thermal pastes?

I know there's something obvious that I'm missing here, btw.

they had them. they werent very good.

Seems a bit challenging with the literal buttload of pins. Also, case height and space isn't standardized like PCI(e) slots.
>>
>>52031296
like pic related?
>>
Wish the CPU slot got replaced with one that supports something like this as the main CPU, not just a co processor.
>>
They give you the cooler, you just put it on and it has it's own preapplied paste shit on there. They just leave it on to you the first time to decide if you want to use a different cooler.
>>
Hotpluggable processors exist.

Most people who would hotplug processors however aren't okay with built-on coolers with pre-applied god-knows-what-quality thermal grease.

Do you Pentium II?

>Why aren't procesors plug'n'play cards like GPUs
Because the slots didn't provide enough bandwidth.

And it was far cheaper and better for the consumer that they all be sold separately. Can you imagine how annoying it would be, having an "Overclocking Capable" processor, but the attached cooler is not good enough to make use of this "feature"?

Even now, while PCIe 3.0 certainly provides enough bandwidth to run a processor through it (As demonstrated by previously stated co-processors), they are just too slow in that data is not passed often enough.

If a slot-based CPU provided any tangible benefit over on-board sockets, then they never would have changed to sockets in the first place. No point in changing back to an obsolete standard.

If there's aftermarket gou coolers, why not aftermarket coolers for cpu cards? And can't cpu cards just use like two pcie slots for bandwidth?
>>
>>52031728
Because replacing the cooler on a GPU is something often not necessary unless the owner is severely unhappy with the cooler's performance. Many are engineered to where they provide acceptable cooling, even to overclocked GPUs.

Bandwidth is not the issue. It's latency. Adding another slot will not solve the issue of latency. For evidence of this, see SLI, and Crossfire.
