my c2d p8600 with 64mbs of integrated graphics handles photoshop cs3 perfectly fine for what i need it for, which is literally just editing programming books into cute anime pics
Anything newer than PS 7 or CS1 is powerbloated shit created solely to sell upgrades, mostly void of actual useful features.
I can do 99% of everything I'd ever want PS for in PS7/CS, or hell, even PS 6. Newer versions have a handful of quality of life improvements but they're not worth multiple gigs higher RAM and storage requirements.
Note that I say this having 16GB of RAM and more storage than I know what to do with. Pointless bloat is pointless.

I can download and install autocad right now without paying a cent but that doesn't imply it's free. Adobe isn't offering cs2 for free.

For all intents and purposes it's free, as in WinRAR free. The police won't come knocking on your door for downloading the publicly available copies of CS2, then using the activation key that Adobe also provides on their website to activate the software.
Technically making any copies of any copyright protected material, including transferring music to your mp3 player is against the law too, but you're just being pedantic for the sake of argument.
