Im a live soundengineer so i prefer having physical stuff to use while i record. well when i hopefully will... i havent started yet! So this is more of a liverecording studio than a project studio
>>
I use a MacBook Pro, ableton push, apogee duet 2 and some Mackie monitors

Does the job for me, but I don't do any real work, it's just a serious hobby for me, though I have enough gear + instruments to run a somewhat decent home studio and make bank from rappers

Just got my girlfriend two jbl lsr305 active monitors (125$ a piece) and a scarlet 2i2 interface. Used sweetwater to purchase. They are more expensive than Amazon, but I was able to haggle and get them to price match the monitors.

The interface is awesome. No midi, but it worked immediately with her mac, connected only via usb, and it worked great with my chink pad x200 after I installed the driver. It sounds incredible.

Pic wasn't sideways,

Sweetwater gives a 2 year warranty.

My name is Jamil btw, I love u /g/uys always.

I'm a pc guy, but logic is the most pro daw- according to my Mac-fag music composition major friend. It's Mac only, but the automated drummers are super pro. I have no rhythm (my name is jamil, not Jamal) so the drummers were useful when I made my shitty synth tracks.

Have fun!

Ps, my girlfriend got me a bus pirate, dust off, an ad card, and an USB smart card adapter for xmas. We exchanged presents early. Best girlfriend ever

My PC is nowhere near a good PC as it’s a laptop, but here are its specs:

>OS
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
>CPU
Intel Core i5 3230M @ 2.60GHz
>RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz
>Motherboard
CLEVO CO. W54xEU
>Storage
931GB HDD
223GB SSD

I also have two monitors, one 2560×1080 and one 1920×1080 (both LGs, I forgot the models and I’m not at the office right now).
As for my gear, I have a Novation Launchkey mini (I don’t really need more), a Novation Launchpad, three Eagletone Tiny Control (MIDI controlers, not shown on the pic), an RME Fireface UC (audio interface), a Behringer graphic EQ (27 bands if I recall correctly) and the mixer table (a behringer Xenyx Idontrememberwhat). My mic is a Rode NT1.

(Mila, what a mess my desk is…)

Fuck that whole game of what music is supposed to be right now. It’s so fucked up even listening to what sounds like people trying to get super good at a video game or something. It doesn’t even sound anything like self-expression, it’s like… I’m awesome within these predefined parameters that are presented to me. Which I guess most artists feel is what’s exciting about a genre. They see a few people doing a similar thing and then everyone just jumps on it and goes, “I’m this now!” It’s like if a bunch of people wore the same fucking outfit from the Gap, you know? What is the difference between that and being awesome at World of Warcraft or something? Not much. It’s almost the same thing if you think about it.
>>
>not having a Mac
>pretending to be a music producer
Consider professional gaming instead if you refuse to use the gold standard
>>
>I'm a composer that makes shitty hip hop/edm beats
>I call myself a music producer

Literally everybody with a pirated FL Studio or Ableton Live.
>>
>>52022102
Yeah, it was way better when there was no preset on actual instruments, and a string always sounded like a string, a drum like a drum and all.
Also, it’s pretty annoying how composers stayed on baroque style, or classical style, only creating new scores with different notes but with no new instruments or sort of sound.

>before was better meme

>Pop music is where all the innovation is happening now.
I totally agree with you (though I don’t think it’s in pop only), I just find the argument of “everyone’s relying on presets” in the post I quoted completely ridiculous. There always have been people trying to do music similar to popular music at all times, and nowaday the only difference is that there are new types of sounds and it’s way easier to access to music creation tools than before.
>>
>>52022363
I'm sorry, what?
http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/science-proves-pop-music-has-actually-gotten-worse-8173368/

Timbre and melodic diversity also went down

Just compare your average memerap track with 1920s Jazz, which was popular back then.
>>
>>52022440
Not the pop stars themselves, but the producers and engineers ect probably do. A lot of great musicians will say the same thing about pop music. John fruscienti said it once and fans got pissed off
>>
>>52022566
>Timbre and melodic diversity also went down
That's not science though, it's a matter of taste and emotion. Music is not better simply because it's more complex.

>>52023017
The current innovation in pop music is minimalism, and stripping everything back except the essentials to create the dynamics and hooks. It's actually neat how they just put the critical elements in like a fine watch or something. There's hopeless pop music just like any other genre though
>>
>>52023017
Where do you get off that complexity is equivocal to innovation? That doesn't even make semantic sense.
The greater artistic, aesthetically speaking, movement we're in is minimalism, breaking from the garishness of postmodern composition. Cut the crap.

Been learning how to produce for a while now. I've played keys and bass with a bunch of people but between bands been thinking about making solo stuff

I really need a pair of monitors but I really wish I had a space echo
>>
If you don't speak Japanese, what's the point? You're never gonna get your Voclaoid sounding right.

Monitors also require room adjustments that can range from free to bank breaking

>>52020519
Apple hardware is generally more reliable and easier for developers to predict (they don't use AMD), which can arguably result in a more stable OS. If not for this reason, a lot of people doing shows are travelling often and the mac laptops have decent battery life, modest performance, and are lighter than other laptops. For an at home studio, I can never understand seeing an iMac, but for travelling they're pretty good.

Youtube guides. There is a immense wealth of step by guides for people just getting started. It is very accessible anon!
>>
>>52023657
That's nice. Even if they start going out though you can pick them up decently cheap on eBay, which isn't the same story for some of the other older synths. I had to wait a year for one of mine to get a micro-controller with the right firmware loaded on it.
>>
>>52023782
Yeah I've heard they're not that bad. I was thinking about eventually kiwi 106 modding this one

I sorta wish I could find a decently cheap poly 61 or dw8000 but I really dont need any more synths
>>
>>52023660
ableton manual, read it cover to cover ( i did the same, you gonna learn everything there is to know, also would recommend printing it), buy a cheap midi keyboard as soon as you can, theres some for under 30 bucks
>>
>>52025299
also, start by the first chapters, then jump to instruments reference, then go back to the order

last thing you read should be audio effects reference, by then you will already used most but now you gonna boost your skills by knowing exactly what each knob does

if it isnt clear, you should be reading at the same time you have the program open, your workflow should be
-read a chapter, tweak stuff it talks about, hear the difference, finish the chapter, get inspired, make a track, read next chapter, tweak stuff, hear the difference, finish it, get inspired, make another track, etc
