Was web development a mistake?
>>
Technology was a mistake.
>>
Yes, I think everyone should have to download a separate .exe for everything that requires interactivity or databases.
>>
>>52014862
Yes

>what is telnet
>>
>>52014862
Not killing myself years ago was a mistake
>>
>>52014932
Those who don't know much about tech much here but still run a Linux based type this in terminal for something cool

telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl
>>
>>52014958
nice virus
>you was a mistake
>>
>>52014862
Too early to tell. Webdev might actually get real hard in the years to come. JS looks like it will keep growing until it becomes the C++ of the web.

I think nobody expected the web to take off so much. Now it basically took center stage to everything. So, the next logical thing is that every possible application will have to move on the web and have an equivalent on the web.

Next up, the Internet of the things shit might actually become a thing eventually. Then basically everything with a CPU inside will be on the web. Get ready for the encryption and security wars... What happens right now is just a pilot for what's coming up next.

>someone tries to show something cool to other users who dont know that much about tech
>random faggot comes in claiming its a virus and thus throwing off anon's goodwill in the mud
This is how imageboards die
>>

>something cool
it has no practical value, go back to where you came from, leddit
>>
I'm not sure but I hate javascript.
>>
>>52015247
>it has no practical value, go back to where you came from, leddit
take that back you faggot, telnet is one of the best protocols to implement when you're learning socket communication.
You will never know how cool is it to make a telnet based program to shutdown your computer using your phone.

This is like 15 years old by now.

get with the time gramps. people use ssh now.
>>
>>52015200
Oh look, Rob Pike predicted fucking everything.

Mainframe style, "cloud based" computing, dumb terminals in the form of portable devices, and heavy development of server based interactive programs designed to work over distributed systems.
>>
>>52014871
Exactly. Technology pretty much destroyed my life. Wish I was just a farmer in the 1800s minding my own shit with a wife and kids instead of wasting my life in front of a screen.
>>
>>52015569
why would i need authentication or encryption when both the server and client run on my home network and no one has access to it?

>>52015579
Try implementing ssh without using any of those fancy libraries and then we'll talk. You'll then see how good telnet is for beginners to implement just by reading the standard. You'll be crying for mommy the moment you lay your eyes on the ssh standard documentation.

be very careful what you wish for

you might get it
>>

Why don't you post your implementation of telnet written in X86 machine code?

no

uhh that's not what anon said at all

An outdated, insecure, completely shit protocol? HTTP is just a specialized internet-based protocol.
>>
>>52015247
Wow. You have lost the ability to appreciate.
>>
>>52015597
Technology didn't do anything but what you told it to.

You destroyed your own life, using technology.

I'd rather be a web developer, playing with constantly developing tech, making cool-ass interfaces, developing brands, making logos and cool-looking shit, than be some nerdy software developer virgin who has to wear an ill-fitting suit to work everyday and program banking databases or anti-virus software in a language like Java or C++ or BASIC. Eurgh, disgusting.
>>
>development
>>
>>52016559
bait
>>
>>52016582
Did webdevs replace your 90's behemoth of Java with a slick responsive web interface that works on all devices or something?

Grace Hopper is the only important female computer scientist I can think of

DESU most fields have very few important females, even those with gender-parity at undergrad
