What are the worst products in the tech market today? Is there anything more disgusting than "premium" HDMI cables?
>>

From the extreme high end rip-offs you can go down to those $50 chinkshit tablets that they sell at wal-mart and die after a week.
>>

Nothing wrong with premium HDMI cables.

Design costs money. I'd rather have a fancy Monster cable than some Chinese shop one. But I can't afford the Monster.

chromebooks
mine died after less than a year

1\ its only got a 7gb hd and the Os takes 6gb
2\ its designed so if you are push space during boot it wipes the hd. also it says on booting "PUSH SPACE ..."
3\ the recovery app/usb stick/cd is like 6 gigs
4\ the recovery app has "recover data" option and no shell, only wipe and re install, literally impossible to access the data
5\ the hard drive is encrypted so even if i got the hd out i cant unencrypt the data
6\ died after 1 year of part time use.

Not all cables are the same despite being all "digital".

There's attenuation, shielding and quality/robustness of mechanical construction.

>>
>>52011985
You're right, but there is a limit.

In a home the amount of EM interference your devices will be subject to is relatively small and your distances are relatively short. So attenuation and shielding aren't massive concerns.
A $20 cable will do as well as a $1000 cable in these regards.
Construction is another story, but even then you'd be better off buying four $20 cables than one $1000, the standard will be superseeded before you end up paying more than the cost of the expensive cable.

Well they're both voltage, aren't they? It's just PCM directly is more like DC voltage vs the AC voltage in a typical audio signal.
>>
>>52017586
Well, in that sense, everything is voltage.

Binary data is represented by low and high voltages (DC) on its way to the DAC, yes. The DAC then turns this into an AC current that represents the complex wave of the sound. Although, there's no neutral that it alternates around.

So yes, technically correct

To be honest, I think there are DAC+amp combos that beyond that point, no real difference can be discerned. I have a UCA202 dac+amp that I modified by removing its output resistor, and that works perfectly.

Instead of distinct "ones" and "zeros" the voltage of the signal drifts around a wide range of values many of which are closer to one half than to one or zero. The signal generates its own interference, in the form of return loss (signal reflected back down the line due to changes in characteristic impedance); the three data channels in the HDMI cable interfere with each other, in the form of crosstalk; the differential nature of the signaling, with mirror-image signals traveling on two wires, is subject to smearing over time from such things as the capacitance between those wires and small differences in their electrical lengths (bear in mind that a "bit" at 6 Gbps is about an inch and a half long in a PE dielectric cable!), so that transitions from "one" to "zero" and vice versa get blurred; and what started as a relatively clean and straightforward signal switching between two discrete values turns into a signal that can no longer be correctly read
As said above, it matters whether you're sending ones and zeros at a slow speed or at a high speed; this is because, much as we'd like to think of transitions between ones and zeros as being the sort of thing that happen instantaneously, these transitions start to look very gradual when you're chopping each second into six billion pieces and looking at what happens within each piece.
>>
These days all of the buzz is about 4K, and people associate the HDMI 2.0 specification with 4K, so it's important to point something out at the outset: not all 4K video is the same. HDMI has supported 4K resolutions since 1.4, but with limits. To keep the signal below the 3.4 Gbps/channel, 10.2 Gbps total limit, a 4K signal couldn't have a high framerate, or deep color. It is still the case as of this writing (November 2015) that most 4K sources which are being run in home theater systems are HDMI 1.3/1.4 "high speed" applications, not HDMI 2.0 extended-bandwidth applications, and for these flavors of 4K, the HDMI 1.3/1.4 "high speed" testing is adequate to represent the conditions of use.

But when HDMI 2.0-type 4K is being run -- currently mostly from computer video cards -- using an extended color gamut and/or high framerate (50 or 60 fps), the 1.3/1.4 testing does NOT represent the actual conditions of use for the cable. We are, at this writing, in "early days" for HDMI 2.0, but indications so far are that the honeymoon is largely over where cable run lengths are concerned. We've had a variety of customers write to us about their experiences when running full-bandwidth 2.0 video, and what they've been finding is that most "high speed cable" does not, at least when run near its longest certified limit, stand up to the task.
The Premium HDMI Cable program really has two elements, to address two different but related problems. First, there is the testing element: in addition to passing the conventional 1.3/1.4 Category 2 cable tests, which test the cable only out to 3.4 Gbps per channel (10.2 combined), the Premium testing program tests the cable's electrical characteristics all the way out to 6.0 Gbps/channel (18 Gbps combined) so that the certification test DOES represent the actual conditions of use of the cable. If the cable passes certification, it should ALWAYS function correctly when used to connect two HDMI 2.0-compliant devices.
>>
It remains the case that the intent of the spec is that any legitimate "high speed" HDMI cable under 1.3/1.4 should handle 2.0 signals; but only a Premium HDMI Cable has actually been tested at the full 18.0 Gbps bandwidth and proven to actually work; and only a Premium HDMI Cable bears the anti-counterfeiting sticker to ensure that the manufacturer of the cable really does hold a certificate for that particular product.

>from some random site "explaining" premium HDMI. harharhar what shit, right?

How often do you use your keyboard, and are the comfyness of your fingers worth the money that it costs for your preferred switch?

Not every switch is for everyone, but everyone has their own switch. Try them out at a best buy or something similar and make your decision then. I personally own a Pok3r w/ browns and always on the look out for a cheap Model M. I want some of those buckling springs for home where no one cares about the noise. They're pretty hard to find in europoor though.

tl:dr: Try some out with different switches and get the one you like the best.
>>
>>52023857
What you don't know is that it doesn't really matter. Digital may be 0s and 1s but that's just the transport medium, up further layers we have these things called "packets" and these packets have "error control" which means that if any packet arrives containing corrupted data it gets resent.

So as long as you can minimize interference to a point where resends don't hold up playback, anything further provides no actual improvement.

>>
>>52024003
If you are only using 6Gbps of the potential 18Gbps what does it matter?

Sure, if you're gunning for 10Gbps across your wired network you want a cable rated for it instead of using Cat6, but then we get down to the interference thing again, once you reduce interference to the point where you are minimizing the resends, then you're good. And you don't need a $10,000 cable to do that.

the future isn't fusion because gpu's will advance just as well as apu's.

apu's are great on paper and shit even in practice if they are given the resources (more shaders, more mhz, more tdp, more system ram bandwidth), but they're not pushing the limits they should be pushing. if AMD really thought fusion of gpu and cpu was the future they wouldn't give a damn about heat in laptops and beef up those APU's.

>>
>>52024396
The problem is that people parroting things like >>52023818 are applying analog principles to digital, which is just wrong.

Yes, interference can affect the digital transmission, but digital protocols have error control which will ensure only correct data is used. Analog transmissions have no such error control, which is why they required such robust shielding to prevent interference.

DLC in video games
they used to call them expansion packs, where were a lot more legit back then

nowadays they make a complete game, then piecemeal it out over the course of a year or two, then sell the complete game for full price once the demand starts to dwindle.

This is the worst with shooters because by the time a new map pack comes out, anybody who skipped out on it will suffer from a major decrease in enjoyment, sometimes to the point of having an unplayable game.
>>
>>52024528
>the error correction can only correct so much
Incorrect, the error correction can correct everything, the packet is not released from the host until the receiver acknowledges it.

>introduces a delay
Correct, but the important factor is how many resends you are getting.
The link should NOT be saturated to keep up with real time playback, it simply isn't required for the amount of data in a 1080i60 + audio connection, which means there is plenty of overhead left to serve resends without delaying playback.
You're far more likely to get errors through your cable/satellite link than through the 2 metre cable between your receiver and TV, considering they are both piss poor connections.
>>
>>52024615
>You're far more likely to get errors through your cable/satellite link than through the 2 metre cable between your receiver and TV, considering they are both piss poor connections.
