should I use hardware acceleration on Firefox ?
laptop i7 with iGPU and dGPU
It should be a very strong laptop, but it stops for like 5 seconds when loading the catalog of 4chan, it's really baffling me what could be the problem

Posting from last thread

Alright I'm close to fucking giving up.
>decide to clean computer and tidy wires
>power it on after
>turns on for few secs, dies
>have to go out so don't bother checking why
>come home, it turns on fine
>booting up fine, processor gives working sound
>no video output in any form

I've tried
>reassembly of all wires/plugs
>booting from embedded graphics
>removing and reattaching gpu
>dvi, hdmi, vga monitor
>power reset motherboard, pull battery
STILL NO VIDEO. WHAT DO I DO?

Pic related it's running but no video output.
>>
>>52004203

its not the specs, there is something wrong in your system, since i have a t420 with a sandy bridge i5 and it never lags.
>>
>>52004095

I have a lenovo G510 laptop; which I have had for a year and a bit.
i7 4th gen
16gb ram
250 crucial bx100 SSD
(no graphics card)

How much could I sell it for, roughly?
>>
>>52004095
I installed eset 32 anti virus on my x220 and since that thay it became really slow, could that be it ?
What are my alternatives, besides l00nix and gent2
>>
>>52004240
try disconnecting everything and do a basic boot (only cpu, 1 ram stick and igpu), if it doesnt turn on it may be that the mobo died or something.
>>
>>52004240
try different monitor, different cable, maybe an older gpu if you have laying around, and if its still fucked, reseat ram, reseat cpu, boot from linux thumbdrive, lots of stuff left to try
>>
>>52004260
unless uBlock or HTTPS everything causes lag, I can think of nothing else, because it has 16gb of RAM, i7-5500U and just did a clean install
It's a laptop for my father, I mean he won't really notice this kind of shit, but it's annoying that Desktops can do everything 2x better while being half the cost
>>
>>52004287
i have a t420 and i dont use eset32, but avast instead.

and a antivirus shouldnt make a computer slow, its not the 90's anymore, clean registry, do general maintenance.

Can I install all the drivers even they are already installed ? Nothing will fuck up ?

Possible with FF going to shit faster than a hit airplane
Might make him use chrome from now on, the laptop has 16gb RAM, it can handle chrome I guess

Two questions:
1) I'm using Firefox and everytime i write into a text field (like the 4chan's QR) it flag every word for autocorrect, seems that something, somewhere, isn't set to "english" as a language.
What option should i mess with to solve the problem?

Second: i'm using ublock and i'd like to remove the big empty spaces where ads would be, using the select element utility i can "remove" them but the effect disappear whenever i reload the page, how can i make a filter for those elements that sticks around?

Pic related, both of my problems

When a samsung 540u laptop is bricked because their shit updates in regard to incompatibility with UEFI, what are the recourses to boot into the HD without the f4 loop hell that occurs?

I've gone through this post:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/samsung-laptops-bricked-by-using-uefi.706510/page-3

I'm currently awaiting the 48 hour cmos/batter discharge, and have tried everything provided in thread above.

If you're handy you may use your electrical installation to reach your PC. Make sure you've got a box there or just make space for one lol.

If the apartment is not yours your best chance are cable covers, I've seen some pretty decent jobs done with that.

Yes, you can. You can bridge the wireless and ethernet devices on your laptop, then run an ethernet cord from your laptop to your desktop.

1. Open network manager and Click Add
2. Choose connection type "Bridge"
3. Add the interfaces you want to bridge.

I believe that's all you have to do. I cant try it right now, but give that a shot.

Most mobos come with at least 2 sets of SATA cables, if you're setting up more than two drives (including optical ones) order one more. Check your mobo specs first ofc.

PSU may come without the wall output, you can get one on any hardware store.

If you have a lot of fans and your mobo doesn't support as many, either get a fan managing extension or some 3/4pin to molex connectors to plug them directly to your PSU.
>>
>>52004213

You should use common sense.

Use a password manager, full disk encryption, never duplicate passwords, always use strong passwords (a password manager will help this), and never tell your passwords to anyone.

An extra step is to change them every once in a while as your paranoia allows.
>>
>>52006959

I didn't use Linux. It is a friends laptop.

It was an incompatibility between the Samsung Firmware updates and Windows 8.1.

Now I'm waiting the 48 hours as advised, and have fresh installed Windows 8 on the HD on my home PC. He made the mistake of deleting ever boot option (hdd, usb, setup partitions, etc) in the BIOS before bringing it to me. Now I am relying on the idea that I'll get a fresh bios come two days from now, or else I will need to install Firmware updates without an OS to do so, and I have no idea how that is accomplished with the utilites available to download online.

How the fuck do I make it go away?
What browser should I be using other than Firefox.

I did disconnect both CMOS + Battery.
I did hold down power button for 2min as well as shorted it on the CMOS pins.

I have waited a 24 hours, and will wait for another 24 as advised in the forums.

It does turn on when on DC power, but the 'samsung f4 loop' error is not something you can bypass (no f2/f10/esc BIOS access).

No, I have only Downloaded 8.1 and 10. Fresh 10 install on the HDD didn't work, now I'm going to try 8.1 as that was what it got fucked up with. Will try Win 7 afterward. All attempts will be USB as the damn shittop doesn't have DVD.

Kek they make all their help pages redirect to a page that doesn't show you how to stop it.

You literally have to go into about:config and disable the commands.

Thats some fine usability.

sum+= num;

I have an old ass printer without any networking capability. It's a good printer, but I have several computers and they can only be hooked up on one at a time.

I want to hook it up to the network somehow. My router has a USB port but it seems to only work for mass storage. I can't actually connect to the printer that way. I also tried connecting it to the nearest computer and it works as a network printer, but if the computer is shut off, it stops communication for obvious reasons.

Barring buying a new printer, how can I have it setup on the network? I'm thinking of getting a raspberry pi and hooking that up to the network, but the drivers are windows only.

>>
>>52008263

Depends on your needs and how good of a deal you land.

i5s are pretty much a jack of all trades and you can easily meet your budget if you're willing to cut down on the mobo (h110 chipsets). 2bh I'd wait because prices are fucking bullshit now.

Check unlocked haswells, DDR4 and skylel are pretty much memes at this point.

Giving away my old build as a christmas gift to a faggot friend

Installing a new mobo plus cpu combo, would I need to re-install windows?

I'm using the stock win 8.1 that came with this gigabyte motherboard and I read somewhere that I would have to call to get a new serial if I wanted to upgrade the mobo

I'm guessing this is bs, couldn't I just run a cracked version of windows on it instead?

The HDD should be alright if there's already stuff on it right? I read around the gigabyte forums some people formatted their HDD's during their mobo upgrade, but I'm going to assume that's just them being a retard and not due to the process of installing a new mobo.

Building a new system /g/. Trying to decide between an i5 6600k and an i5 4690k. All things included, it would be about 60 bucks more to go for the skylake 6600k, with an 1151 motherboard and DDR4.

One thing to note is that I will probably not be upgrading much. I plan to possibly just sell the system in 3 to 5 years.

Seems like right now the performance differences between haswell and skylake aren't worth the extra $60 since I don't plan on getting PCI-E or M.2 SSDs, doing SLI, or upgrading that much.

Am I missing anything? Haswell or skylake /g/?

Assuming that the SSD will only be used to store the OS and drivers, the first option sounds good, but if you go for the second option, you can store some games that have longer load times (like civ5 or skyrim) on the SSD. Personally, I'd go for a simple SATA 3 SSD.
