>none of the google nexus phones have sd slots
>google explained this because they think people get confused about how sd cards work
>they also stopped making their batteries easily removable

its like they want to avoid saying their entire gimmick is to keep you from keeping the phone for more than 1-2 years
>>
>>51991001
No they said it's because SD cards are slower than internal storage and devs would have to account for this.

Basically, BS to force you to use their cloud services.

nice try googlefag

http://www.technologytell.com/gaming/101859/here-is-why-nexus-android-devices-dont-support-sd-cards/

>“Everybody likes the idea of having an SD card, but in reality it’s just confusing for users.

If you’re saving photos, videos or music, where does it go? Is it on your phone? Or on your card? Should there be a setting? Prompt everytime? What happens to the experience when you swap out the card? It’s just too complicated.

We take a different approach. Your Nexus has a fixed amount of space and your apps just seamlessly use it for you without you ever having to worry about files or volumes or any of that techy nonsense left over from the paleolithic era of computing.

With a Nexus you know exactly how much storage you get upfront and you can decide what’s the right size for you. That’s simple and good for users.”

>Is it on your phone? Or on your card?
Who cares? Just leave the card in there. Most people use SD cards for expansion and never take them out.

>Should there be a setting? Prompt everytime?
I'd say they should introduce a proper fucking file manager. That would totally solve the issue and make it possible to use the device for real work.

But there's no way they'll do that. Phones are still toys rather than tools.
>>
>>51991142

thats not the point, its a lot less of a con vs the pros of having 128 gigs of space if needed

the excuses they give is fucking pathetic

especially since 99% of the most popular phones all have one, the just know being the only phones that come completely unlocked and have various options like cynogenmod that it almost makes their phones unlikely to be upgraded, so they're trying to EASPORTS their way into forcing people to upgrade
>>
>>51991261
Poorfag can't afford 128GB phones

It's like they wrote this for all of the problems with cloud storage and applied it for local storage.
>>
It's 2015, if you can't afford 128GB phones you belong in India.
>>
>>51991416

they dont actually offer one tho

its just 2 gigs of ram (the only thing that really matters)

and 8 or 16 gigs of space

There is a difference between affording something and unwisely spending.

I bought a galaxy s5 on black friday over the nexus phones, with the sd card being the primary reason. also I really dont need a screen res over 1920x1080. that's a waste of money and battery life.

Google confirmed for casuals

Nexus 5X: 2GB RAM and 16 or 32GB of storage
Nexus 6P: 3GB RAM and 32, 64, or 128GB of storage
ok buddy

it only came out 4 years ago

so that's a yes. you do buy apple products.

>why would you want physical storage when we can hold on to your data in the cloud, anon?

>just stay signing in and connected and your data will be so easily availible
>>
>>51991607
It came out in 2010 m8. I've had 3 phones since then so no I don't buy apple products
>>
I work at Google and the answer is not "the public gets confused", but it's also not the "we want to index all your data in our cloud" either.

Honestly the real answer is Android devs are lazy as shit and don't want to deal with a situation where apps or certain app data that used to be present is no longer present because it was on removable media that the user removed.

Yes, there are solutions to this problem. Yes, we know about stuff like aufs. No, there are no plans to implement this.

>>51991683

its amazing how samsung manages to be the most popular phone while having users that either use or dont use sd slots

also its been like 2 years now and i just had to search for the fucking BETA of google chrome 64 bit on windows

the fuck is the hold up

there are blog articles from 2014 saying how you're about to launch a stable 64 bit for windows and the shit is still only in beta

If your life didn't revolve around your phone you'd realize xXsick specsXx devices cater to fat no life autists that continuously complain about dumb features getting removed from new phones. Companies know you fat retards exist and will continue to cater to your demands, but they are slowly realizing you are not worth the r&d. Eventually you'll grow out of your autistic ways and want something that just werks. Until then, enjoy being 30, go outside more like you should have done as a child. There is still time to turn your life around.

Iphone6s
16gb - 900$
128gb - 1150$

128gb microsd card - ~50$
Note phones like the v10 come with 64gb on board.

Would you rather spend 250$ or 50$ for more ram that is 'super confusing' to use?

>>51991795

i would cringe to hear google nexus call center support scripts they read when people ask them about sd slots

when the Nexus S came out, I remember there was a post made somewhere by a Google engineer that cited that unpredictability was the main reason for the removal of the SD card slot. App behavior as you mentioned was one aspect, but also the wide array of cards available, fast, slow, good bad, terrible etc. Basically, Google didnt want people buying knock-off/rip-off SD cards with horrible performance and then blaming Google that their phone went to shit.
>>
>>51992556
what the fuck? that shit sounds made up

were people actually complaining about that back when SD card slots were commonplace?
>>
>>51992586
"...However, on the Nexus side, the usability issues with microSD won the day. The product managers were concerned about things like slower, poorer quality microSD cards and microSD failure that were challenging for users to self-diagnose when there were multiple kinds of storage. A single, high quality internal storage solved this issue (at the cost of expandability). They also noted that in addition to considering users, a single unified storage was easier and more predictable for developers—a single fast and reliable internal storage meant better predictability on app performance, less problems with defining where to put files, and reduced troubleshooting/customer service."
