>Hear about Crimson
>Get cleanup utility
>Clear PC of Catalyst and drivers
>Do clean Crimson install
>Heard about fan issues so keep an eye on the fans for the first few days
>They're fine, revving up the heat goes up and everything.
>Think cool its stable
>Randomly PC just starts crashing into a black screen, audio goes on for a few seconds than freezes as well
>Happens a couple times
>Uninstall
>Reinstall Catalyst
>Everything works fine again

So what the actual hell is wrong with Crimson that its breaking GPUs?

And apparently I'm one of the lucky ones because reading around a lot of people after experiencing same type of crashes I have were unable to uninstall Crimson or reinstall catalyst.

same, my 390 use to get up to 78, now it rarely gets up to 75 on a medium oc

i still havent installed crimson out of paranoia. is it on a new revision yet? ive decided to wait until a newer version came out just to be safe.

It works totally fine and anyone having issues probably turned off their computer halfway through installation.
>>

>It works totally fine and anyone having issues probably turned off their computer halfway through installation.
OP here, contrary to popular belief not everyone with PC troubles is a pc-illiterate with a pre-built. Just because it works fine for you doesn't mean there are no issues, stop being a prick.
>>
>>51991689
there have been 2 updates since then.
>>
>>51991003
This is likely your problem, anon. I would imagine the two don't work flawlessly together, yet, and if clocks raise even slightly before voltage, you'd be running at a major power deficiency, even if only for a moment, which could cause a crash.
>>
>>51991752
>>51991752
>This is likely your problem

Who are you talking to? The person you just replied to clearly stated he doesn't have any problem.
>>
>>51991703
ive ran into plenty of issues with new drivers in the ~3 years ive had my 7870. none of them as grand as people claim from crimson, but ive done enough driver updates to know they can have issues when you've seemingly done everything right.
hell, ive had issues that didnt return results when i googled them. they seemed to be something only i was running into, like choppy framerates during cutscenes in xcom. but fresh reinstall of the drivers would mostly solve such issues quickly.

i dont think its insane to approach this known troublesome driver with caution. especially considering it has the potential to permanently damage my card that i cant afford to replace.
>>
>>51991817
My bad, thought it was OP
>>
>>51990960
Probably data corruption. You installed Crimson twice, and it worked fine every time. As it does for almost everyone else.
Problems started only after a few weeks. The issue is probably not with the driver.
>>
>>51991164
You should know that the GPU already undervolts itself when you lower the core clock. If you drop core voltage and additional 100mV on top of that, it might very well become unstable.

What? No I didn't, the catalyt was installed by windows and it was on a clean install of the os.
>Problems started only after a few weeks. The issue is probably not with the driver.
Two days, and there was nothing new installed on the system other than Crimson.

The issue also went away when I uninstalled crimson.

I installed crimson and now my memory doesn't artifact past 1500mhz any more.

I then remembered that I purchased 3dmark with some steambucks and things kind of spiraled out of control from there.

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/6886667

Its currently breaking 8000, I could probably get the ram to 1850 MHz or even 1900 MHz if I wanted to make the attempt.

I'm ok with crimson.
>>
>>51991725
Why does it work fine for me for the last 15 years then?

Crimson drivers completely break crossfire on my HD6950s also the "stable" 5.7.1 driver has had broken HDMI audio for months

Is the crimson software new? I just bought an r7 370 and installed the latest drivers. Problem is I get a black screen when resuming from sleep even though my hardware is powered on. Sleep worked fine with my integrated graphics.

Am I supposed to downgrade the drivers? AMDs website doesn't make it easy to find older driver releases.

Worst case scenario is me returning the card :/

Try adjusting your power settings in control panel. Also, it might be the monitor. Try completely unplugging the monitor, waiting a few seconds, then hook it back up. This happens on my Asus VG248's and 7970GE. Its just something that happens.

Op it may be caused by having the amd gaming evolved app running. After installing crimson I was left with a black screen, to me awhile to figure out the problem but removing gaming evolved from startup via msconfig fixed it

Worked just fine for me, 2 R9 290s. Too bad crossfire profiles and game specific settings simply don't stick for some reason, so I switched back.

do you not have the bug with crimson where it downclocks to 970 MHz core when launching 3dmark? using clockblocker prevents it but also it prevents OCing. don't have that bug with games
also that's a very nice score

I went up to 1850 last night but it started bringing my score down lower, so I'm going to stay at 1825 MHz as the upper limit.

>>51996027
I'm one of those people who has never had a single issue with amd drivers, can't say I've ever seen a throttling, misreading or OC error that wasn't the result of improperly installed drivers. Its mostly MSI Afterburners fault, if i forget to uninstall afterburner before installing new drivers fun things can happen.

Is 1.313v in a r9 390 safe? It goes up to 80 degrees on load.

use the intel integrated for one monitor, that happens with all radeon cards and i think nvidia.
>>
>>51997528
This. I gave up on trying to fix this months ago.
>>
>>51997625
It's not too bad, just annoying.

Side note I haven't tried but I'm wondering if crimson fixed the issue of my r9 280x not being able to drive 3 monitors without display port. AS FUCKING ADVERTISED
>>
>>51997586
A lot of video cards do not downclock memory if you connect more than two displays, or two displays with different resolutions/refresh rates.

My 290X downclocks to 300 core/150 mem if I run my dual WQHD with both displays at 60Hz.
If I run one at 60Hz, and one at 120Hz, it will idle at 300 core, 1250 mem.

It never keeps the core clock high in 2D, though.

Quads of truth. Nvidia drivers are not better than AMDs any more. The only thing they still do better is game-specific profiles arriving earlier. Although nobody in their right mind plays a game on day one.
>>
>>51990960
Crimson stable drivers are going to really be beta for a year or two. It's just the way shit works.
