Used these madvr settings for a long time with my gtx 970:
- chroma: jinc with anti ringing
- upscale: lanczos (3) with anti ringing
- downscale: lanczos (3) with anti ringing
- doubling: super-xbr (100)
- enhancement: adaptive-sharpen
- refinement: super-res (3)

It crashes all the time so I tried mpv.
But default settings are very shitty, what's your configuration?

I tried this but it doesn't look like madvr.

I do not understand prescale very much, on madvr doubling is used only when upscaling.
What about mpv and its prescale feature, does it run even when there isn't any upscaling?

Oh thanks, mpv has adaptive sharpen too.
There are two version in the mpv wiki, which is the best?
Why is it used as image enhancement (pre-upscaling) on madvr and as post-shaders in mpv?

>Oh thanks, mpv has adaptive sharpen too.
Yup, updated every now and again.
https://gist.github.com/bjin/152a2f8bdf87d83261ac

Well, it is retarded to use sharpen before upscaling. You're introducing error and then amplifying it.

>>51990329
>Is there a good pre-scaler on mpv?
NNEDI3. Super xbr needs work still. However, I don't recommend it unless you have a 4k monitor or, at the very least, 1440p. Pre-scalers like NNEDI3_rpow, super-res and so on, upscale image by the power of 2, meaning that if the target resolution is smaller, you will have to downscale it as well, which is quite crappy.
>>
>>51990368
How to apply prescale only if it needs 2x upscaling?
I do not understand prescale-downscaling-threshold...
>>
>>51990161
No you're a fucking idiot PNG fanboy.
PNG is good for taking screenshots of your desktop, video usually contains lots of non-solid colors, including anime, so 99% of the time jpg would result in better quality to filesize ratio.
Learn how image codecs work fucktard before being an idiot on the internet.

I have no idea, that sort of logic would be a great addition to mpv, assuming it hasn't already been implemented.

Filesize and CPU/GPU resource usage are two different things, as long as you don't hit the cap of your hardware it isn't really a problem, but with filesize generally the smaller you can get it the better, especially if your uploading them to the internet, the bigger it is, the longer it will take to upload, and the longer it will take for other people to download it, all because you're a fucking idiot who doesn't understand image codecs.
Don't be a fucking retard, use the appropriate codecs please.

idk why but now I have performance increases for interpolation but why do you have such high gamma?
>>
What's a good config for an iGPU? Using it on a laptop too so I don't want it sucking up a lot of power. MPC-HC at default settings with h/w decoding set to dxva native consumes about 1.5 watts. Anything that can get better quality at the same or less power draw?
>>
I want to use xv for 60fps videos, but opengl for everything else. possible?
>>
>>51993689
Not as far as I know. mpv decides all its settings before it loads the file, which is why you can have profiles based on the file extension, but not based on any properties of the video like the codec or the framerate. It's even harder to know the framerate for containers that support variable framerate video.
>>
>>51992325
>idk why but now I have performance increases for interpolation
Where you on rgb32f or something? probably because the buffer holding the pixels is 2 times smaller, meaning better cache usage and locality, but also because the data the algorithms are working on are of smaller size, so less processing time.
>why do you have such high gamma?
So the such high saturation doesn't fuck everything, i wanted to bring out the colors much more without fucking the image, and upping the gamma fixes that.

Total shitter here, i have no idea where to start with mpv on mac. Where do this settings go?

well, I realized all the 60fps videos I play are in mp4 or webm, so that works fine enough.

Is there a way for mpv to scale subs by the x-axis only, like it's possible in MPC-HC?
Increasing the font size doesn't do what I want as it also scales the y-axis of those, thus covering half the display if I want to get some readable size.
Also, even if increased it's still squeezed.

I see these alot but how does this accomplish anything without a color profile?
>>
>>51996017
Actually, the former two settings only work without a colour profile. Setting them makes mpv assume those are the display's characteristics, kind of like a poor man's colour profile, so if you set target-trc=srgb, for example, it will assume your monitor is calibrated to sRGB gamma and convert the video's gamma to sRGB for output.

The latter has a small typo (it should be icc-profile-auto.) It automatically picks up the colour profile from the operating system (and the operating system, if it's smart enough, might pick up a colour profile from a database or the display's EDID.)
>>
