Trying to help a friend build his computer and we got stuck trying to wire it
What we got in it right now
>Evga 500b psu
>b85m-g motherboard
>>
>>51989019
Pick up wire with the end that is the tallest rectangle, put it in the slot that works on the mobo, pick a 2x2 end and put it in the slot next to the cpu, pick one with a sata end and put it into the hdd.

yes. Also connect the HDD to the motherboard

Looks good OP. Don't forget the sata cable connecting the harddisk to the motherboard though.

Check the Motherboard's manual for those.
>>
>>51989343
The exact place these go differs between different motherboards. It's in the booklet somewhere, or you can upload a high-quality pic. Yes they are far too small and you can't see what you're doing with your sausage fingers, deal with it.

Looks like these are the connectors for the switches and leds (>>51989343), but good luck trying to read which one goes where without the manual.

That's actually surprisingly readable.

For the HDD led, the colored wire is the plus and the black wire is the minus. The power led wires are marked, of course. For the switches, the orientation doesn't matter.
>>
>>51989470
We also have another seta cable. We have the HDD-> Motherboard.
>>
>>51989605
You only need one sata cable per storage device. You'll need the second if you're gonna install a dvd player or SSD or something, or a second harddisk.
>>
>>51989621
What the difference between SDD and HDD? Do I need a SDD?
>>
>>51989645
SSDs are faster than harddisks but smaller and more expensive. You can speed up your computer significantly, but not hugely, by using both an SSD and a HDD, with the SSD holding your software and your HDD holding your movies and shit and other large files. It comes at a price though, and is entirely optional.
>>
Thanks to all. All we need to do is put the graphics card in.
>>
>>51989741
Looks good.

>press power button
>it doesn't do anything
>shit bricks
>realize the hard power switch at the back of the PSU is still off
Every fucking time.
>>
>>51989343
It's right fucking there, can you not see the printing
>>
>>51989784
It's the orientation of plugging them is was the question we just plugged them onto the prongs and moved on
>>
>>51989778
You say this and it will STILL happen to us.
>>
>>51989813
For the leds, the orientation matters. If you swapped the plus and minus, the led doesn't work. For the switches, it doesn't matter (which is why the wires aren't marked).
>>
>>51989741
What graphics card do you have? It may or may not need a power connection of its own.
>>
>>51989961
An r7 370
>>
>>51989978
Yeah, it needs a power cable. A six pin thing. Don't forget to plug it in.
>>
>>51989511
read the markings on the motherboard pins along the edge it will tell you what goes where they're just LEDs, most import is the power sw one or else you'll have to jump the pins with a screwdriver

We got it working and this popped up, what do?
>>
>>51990375
More likely the voltage meter is fucked. If your 12V line is ACTUALLY delivering 0.048V, you wouldn't be seeing this screen. You wouldn't be seeing anything at all.
>>
>>51990390
Do you have an OS ready?
>>
>>51990390
Does the CPU fan in fact run? What about the casefan? If so, don't bother with it. Sometimes the motherboard doesn't properly see the fan activity for whatever weird reason.
>>
>>51990390
install gentoo
>>
>>51990409
>>51990418

>>
>>51990445
Well you are going to need one. Put it on a USB drive or something and boot it from that to install
>>
Can we download a trial OS to a Flash drive and install it that way for now?
>>
>>51990390
good job anon
>>
>>51990469
We'll aside from an os everything's working properly.
>>
>>51990398
That's what speccy is reading, and I'm getting BSOD after anywhere from 50 seconds of turning the pc on to an hour of it being on on both my igpu and my gtx 580. I just think speccy is pulling a random low ass number that attributes to that actual reading, but I assume it's still low as fuck. Are you saying speccy is just reading horribly wrong and the PSU isnt the issue at all?
>>
>>51990470
Not even baiting here
r/microsoftsoftwareswap has links to the downloads of all windows versions
>>
>>51990470
Sure, but why the trial thing? What stops you from just installing whatever OS you like right now?

>>
>>51990536
I'm saying what speccy reads is *definitely* wrong. As for what's actually happening, that's anyone's guess.
>>
>>51990428
Yes, this is the time to do that.
>>
>>51990547
Don't have an os yet, waiting on a key
>>
>>51990609
You can install full windows and just use it until you get the key
>>
Now take the mobo back out and put the o.o shield in
>>
>>51990625
How do we do that?
>>
>>51990609
Ah, you're being all legal about it. I see.

You can at least install a linux distro, such as ubuntu. Completely free, and you can just remove it when you install windows (actually, windows will do that whether you like it or not unless you're careful).
>>
>>51990609
If you want to install something temporary I would recommend installing something simple like Ubuntu.
>>
>>51990643

LOL epic meme almos as funi as delete sys 32 epic XDDDD
>>
>>51990650
Go to r/microsoftsoftwareswap
Get a download of windows from the sidebar
Use their tutorial to make a bootable usb drive
Install
After that install drivers for your shit
>>
>>51990681
What would you suggest, anon? Keeping in mind that OP doesn't want to pirate and is still waiting for a legal version, and wants to install *something* in the meantime.
>>
>>51990702
Something easy like arch or gentoo, of course.
>>
>>51990581
CUPID shows similar readings, im pretty sure my 12v is just so low the software is just pulling a ridiculously low reading, i can't confirm that because I've never heard of anyone pulling numbers that low either.
>>
Doing the r/microsoftsotwareswap now just waiting for him to finish now
>>
>>51990783
The download may take a while but windows gives you 30 days to active.
>and you can reset the 30 day timer twice
>>
Currently downloading Windows 7 Ultimate ISO 64 bit. Also I am OP's friend he is talking about. FYI
