So, has anyone else updated Windows 10 recently? Of all things it was this update that's finally pushed 'install Linux' to the top of my priorities.
>Too fucking ages to install.
>Mandatory update.
>Makes Edge your default pdf viewer.
>Doesn't tell you what else has changed (anyone got a list?)

Also, Win 10 hate thread.
>>
>>51987639
why'd you install it in the first place?
>>
>windows finally has a first party PDF viewer
>>
>>51987639
kek good thing i disabled updates just 1 week ago.
what build are you on right now anon`?
>>
>>51987639
I know it reinstalled some useless apps I'd gotten rid of (such as Get Skype and Get Office) and undid my key remapping. I don't recall if there was anything other than those and what you mentioned.
>>
i really hate it. i cant do video games on linux though
>>
>>51987665
>why'd you install it in the first place?
Basically, 'install Linux' was low enough on my list of priorities that I never got around to it, also for job reasons, I need actual fucking Excel... and I need to get round to learning V Basic.

>>51987689
>what build are you on right now anon`?
Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.36).

>>51987690
Yeah, it's also started bugging me about Cortana again.

>>51987719
>i really hate it. i cant do video games on linux though
When are we expecting to get Linux working well with games anyway? Valve Time?
>>
>>51987719
dual boot. use windows for games and a OS that YOU control for everything else
>>
I dont quite hate it enough to justify switching to linux, win10 is a spyware nightmare sure, needs at least an hour of post-install to sanitize and lock down, but is otherwise a solid os that fits my requirements.

My job has me learning new os environments every week as it is (ffs someone PLEASE standardize plc programming languages across brands augh), and after a week of switching between SEW and Siemens or Mitsubishi (suuure they all use ladder or STL but all differ juust enough to fuck you over), the cost/benefit slider still sits on the 'windows works well enough' side and i can chill out to a few hours of Elite, or Fallout.
>>
>>51987748
>build 10586
fook i have the same version.

where did you find the .36 though?

how is that a great idea when windows 10 is about to scan your harddrive for illegal games you have downloaded ;°:)

If you really wanna hear a great idea listen out:
1. Get linux
2. Get vmware and install windows on it
3. ???
4. profit
>>
I mean, who doesn't enjoy undocumented forced updates that break shit and change your options without notifying you?
>>

i think i tried that before on windows and it wouldn't work something about my cpu (2500k) not supporting virtualization for a 64 bit os? im not sure

>>
>>51987942
yeah i have the 2500k too. I know that problem, you gotta go into the BIOS and disable it. i dont know what the virtualization shit is for but it made no difference for me, and vmware started working
>>

this. Been rolling like this a while. Almost never boot Windows anymore.
>>
>>51987639
1) install windows 10
2) install steam
3) only play gaymes on windows
windows is only good at one thing and that one thing ignores the majority of what makes windows 10 suck. install gentoo for a superior experience with everything else computers do. unless you're in to video/photo/music production. then get a mac and go away.

Funny, I've always felt that way about the pylons who will happily spend six hours trying to configure a Linux distro and get the WiFi working; but will complain and are completely incapable of spending b twenty minutes to configure Windows through simple GUIs to behave the way they want.

Don't get me wrong, Linux is great for lots of things, and I actively use both Linux and Windows....

... But anyone who shows up on a tech thread or forum complaining about breaking something in Windows or demonstrating a complete lack of ability to configure it is just shouting from the proverbial rooftops that they're an idiot.
>>
>>51988083
who configures linux anymore?
generally, it doesn't suck on fresh install. the most you have to do is install your preferred browser and media player.

Your CPU can do virtualization fine. It just can't do PCI-E hardware passthough, so no running VMware ESXi.

I installed it a while back on my new laptop and dunno if i should torrent some stuff or play it safe.
Anyone know if i'd get in trouble for downloading shit like photoshop and a few games?
>>
>>51988295
of course you can torrent it. use microsoft toolkit to crack it (auto kms)
>>
I've used Windows exclusively for years and all bullshit aside no particular version was that bad. I'll be the first to admit though that 10 is really pissing me off. In all honesty the automatic updates don't really bother me but the thing that gets under my skin is what this person: >>51987690 mentioned. Reinstalling and re enabling features is fucking bullshit. I've also noticed that some toggles under privacy are switched on after I manually switched them off. A service pack better fix this shit.

You can literally get the Windows .iso-s from Microsoft.
You can get KMSPico or some other activator from the mydigitallife forum and activate your current installation.

That's why you should've pirated it from tpb's user muprhy78 and anyone should download this tpb user's Windows/Microsoft torrents too. Basically all the Windows updates are already baked into your Windows installs if its 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 all the updates pretty much baked right into your Windows. Plus he uploads/covers other Microsoft/Windows updates too. The only thing you really have to do is run portable portable KMSPico after you install and your Windows is activated for life along with MS Office if you choose/want to install install it too.

i plan on switching to linux once nvidia fixes their linux drivers on skylake and broadwell platform. recent nvidia drivers cause segfaults when glibc is built with lock elision support. either have to build glibc without it or downgrade nvidia drivers to releases from 9+ months ago. which for me i can't do since i own a 980 ti along with my 6700k.

2) PDF support. Nothing can come close to Acrobat Reader, unfortunately, from what I've seen. Chromium's built-in PDF editing gives me impressively bizarre formatting.

What's that? And as I said in my post way earlier today, it's not that hard to set or use Chrome to view your PDF files.

Mostly people here are just children who don't know the answer so they veil themselves in hostility to cover it up.

My boot section was completely bricked, and I had to wipe the HDD after installing updates.
I have no idea what the heck happened.

VB macros are probably heavily used in his office, and the kind that need actual Excel on actual Windows system, not something that can run in Wine. (Not Wine's fault, VB macros are hideous abomination from the bottom to the top.)

I'm not going to blame him for decisions he didn't make, fάm.

It has shitty font rendering
Data collection every fucking where, too many fucking services

However, it works nicely. Better than older versions. If I were to compare it to W7 or 8 without SP1 this looks much better and more stable, so if that redstone update is important enough, it shall bring even greater results.

>What was your Firefox version or rather what's your Firefox version?
It's been around since like version 4, if not earlier. If memory serves there's some types of pdf that Firefox can't handle, so if you set Firefox as the default pdf viewer, it'll fuck up. Apparently the issue isn't even unique to pdfs.

Every windows 10 thread I see just convinces me more and more to never install windows 10

I bet all windows 7 and 8 users will soon feel their PC's becoming slower and slower when MS decides to make bullshitting updates with the intention to mess up their systems as a way to make them install Windows 10.
>>
>>51996900
You know that you can deactivate Windows Update, and download updates manually, right?
>>
>>51996949
Sure. But fatal security updates can still contain bogus code. Theres really no way to know before you install it.

MS fired most of their QA-team in mid-2014
late-2014 the first bunch of update-issues started to happen
nowadays the devs are also their own QA (derp)

don't be surprised.

they are nconveniences but overall its better than windows 7

I've been using Win7 for years now and never had any intention to change it since it just werked.
But now seeing all the bullshit microsoft is pulling with their fucking spyware and general incompetence it actually pushed me far enough that I decided to stop being a total pleb.

I think I'll just build a new pc from scratch with a nice GNU/Linux distribution while only keeping the old one for my japanese porn games.
