Still on Yosemite, and skeptical of upgrading to El Crapitan. I heard there was a lot of issues with external VST plug-ins, which are kinda critical for some of the work i do. Some of my other gear has software that has not yet been developed for El Crapitan as well. Right now i can render in peace, things seem to work.

Pretty much all distros have a driver manager to help install video and other drivers if necessary.
Installing the nvidia drivers manually isn't really isn't hard btw.

Using Gentoo on a laptop. Also have a preinstalled Windows 8 which I dual-boot into whenever I can't do something on Linux for whatever reason (something important broke because of my autism and tinkering with the system; some program or game doesn't work in wine; some device doesn't have a decent driver etc.).
Switched relatively recently too (half a year ago). Before that used Windows 8 daily because couldn't be bothered to pirate 7.
Overall pretty content with my new system. Feels a lot faster.
