mpv is hipster meme tier.
It's a good player but there's literally no reason to use outside of Linux circle jerking.
Just use MPC-BE with MadVR and LavFilters.

Yes it does.
>>
tbf some/many .srt files are fucked up and require you to specify shit.
MPV probably doesn't have this automated/auto-detected for some stuff which isn't a bad thing since srt is a waste of time.
>>
>>51979504
You don't know how to use mpv.
Maybe stick with VLC if you're not going to make an effort to learn, or don't personally care.

ok delete thread now pls.

But it does. You can even make it load all .srt from a folder instead of only the ones with the same name.

ITT: babbies can't read manpages

I have fucking nightmares about people who don't check man pages. Some devs these days are too scared to even mess with the terminal
>>

When I install a media player I expect it to play media files by simply opening them. I don't want to read a fucking manual.
>>
>>51980140
Even worse is that new tools usually don't even come with man pages. You have the choice of reading the vague and incomplete --help output or asking jeeves.

Shit's spreading, yo.

man pages is a lost art. Some of the best ones have examples of things people might need to do, so it has something like
if you want the program to do X
program --argument FILE
>>
>>51980195
No, what I said was that I don't want to read a fucking manual for a specific problem in a specific piece of software that is a non-issue in pretty much all other software of this type.
I know you like being an autistic elitist, but we have 2015 now.

just change the snapshot prefix so nobody knows it's vlc.

$N means the name of the file.
>>
>>51980230
That is a non-issue in all other software of this type. What are you even trying to achieve? I complained that /g/ praises something that's inferior to something that /g/ frowns upon (yeah, generalizing is fun).
It doesn't matter if there is a way to get it to work after consulting a manual when literally all the other software does it out of the box.

And no, this isn't bait, your opinion is just shit.
>>
>>51980213
Yeah, those are god tier.

I remember reading a conversation on the Emacs-devel mailing list recently where they discussed whether the reason man pages are falling out of fashion is that no one wants to write in texinfo. ESR suggested HTML, IIRC, but I think a plain markdown file would be more than sufficient.
>>
>>51980219
>we have 2015
You have 2015 what?
>>
>>51980273
It is a non-issue in mpv though. Your question is "does mpv support .srt subtitles". The answer is "yes". That's it. There is nothing to resolve. There is no option to look up. It's automagic. You could have just tried it yourself.

can you man pages gurus please enlighten me how to display fps of current video stream in mpv? I did this issue extensively but could not find any good answer. In bomi I simply push TAB and all the information on the video currently playing shows up.
>>
>>51980291
Having it in the markdown is my perfered alternative.
Still theres nothing like the feeling spending 5 hours sshing into your server, and just typing "man program" and the solution is just there
>>
>>51979504
--sub-auto=<no|exact|fuzzy|all>, --no-sub-auto

parameter specifies how external subtitle files are matched.
exact is enabled by default.

no Don't automatically load external subtitle files.

fuzzy Load all subs containing media filename.

all Load all subs in the current and --sub-paths directories.

The idea, I think, is that it would still compile down to the regular troff.gz stuff that manpages use.

Does your .srt file have the same name as the video file?
>>
>>51980273
You're right.

I'll stick with VLC while it's working perfectly for me. I don't care about a fucking video player (or any) software that does the same thing or even less.

mpv does it out of the box as well. In fact it handles subtitles OOTB better than any other player I know. Partially because its main dev is also a dev for libass.
