I have a GTX 780.
Is it true the latest drivers gimped the card and makes it perform worse?

http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops-3-Spiel-55478/Specials/Test-Benchmarks-1176980/

780 was the competitor to r9 290.. now it's the competitor of 280X aka 7970
>>
>gimped the card

No, it's just you keeping deprecated obsolete hardware out of the trash.

There's some sweet deals on reference 980s right now, go for it champ!
>>
I have the same card. It's doing great so far. I asked here a couple of times and they said the 780 is a fine card for now. Better to save money and buy new hardware next year (according to /g/)
>>
>>51979146
yes, no point in throwing your money away on another 28nm card when 16nm/14nm will be out soon.

It's more the fact that Nvidia straight up abandoned it in terms of making any performance improvements or adjustments via drivers. In older games, a 780 beats a 970 clock for clock. In newer games it performs like shit.
>>
>>51978997
You know all those new shiny whql drivers nvidia makes for new games?
Well i have bad news for you, they do jack shit for any gen that is not current one.
I loved my 770, while it lasted.

It's not that they're gimping your 780 with new drivers, they just optimise it less for newer games.
A 970 is starting to beat a 780 ti in many games.

That's one advantage you get when you choose AMD, because they maintain an architecture for so long you're guaranteed real updates for much longer.
>>
Is 970 sufficient for a single 1920x1080 display? Is 3.5GB VRAM a meme or a genuine fault? Should I just get a GTX 980 instead?
>>
>>51980070
You should get a 390 or wait for Pascal. The 980 is overpriced as fuck for the performance it offers.

Even in this older chart the 780 is only slightly ahead of a 280x i na few games - something flatout impossible in mid-late 2013 when the 780 launched.
>>
>>51980013
not but you're guaranteed that they don't optimize drivers for the new ones either

960 is just a 760 with optimized drivers though right?

>960 is just a 760 with optimized drivers though right?

Given how it performs it might as well be.
>>
>>51980110
It's a different gpu, but performance should be closer to a 670?
>>
>>51980126
I remember the benchmarks arounf launch, the 960 was almost the same as 760. But I guess we can expect them fucking with the drivers...

Shadowplay stopped working lately too, it was more stable in beta on my 760
>>
You should have a 970, not a 780. Upgrade it.

A driver gimping a year keeps the goyim in fear.
>>
>>51978997
Nope. That's just AMDPoorfags spreading FUD. It was a driver bug that got fixed.

Thats why the 780 performs closer to a 280x than a 290 at 1080p huh? As resolutions climb it gets closer and closer to the 280x (or as its more commonly known Godmachine Tahiti).

I wont be able to buy a new gpu until mid 2016
>>
>>51978997
More like nvidia stopped improving it's performance in games via drivers.
>>
>>51980509

For toasters with shit-tier psus the 750ti is an excellent card.
>>
>>51980547
Will using an older driver give me better performance?
On the nvidia forums people are suggesting using 347.88 instead of the most recent one, or some icafe drivers.
>>
>>51980563
Realistically no. It may help with some older games, but new ones will be worse.
game ready drivers do not improve performance but at least they do not let it drop too much
>>
>>51980556
I use
4460 intel i5
8gb ram
Some asus motherboard
And my psu is 500w and it was from my old pc
Why did I fell for that card?!
Going to overclock the shit out of it when I start to see that it wont run newer games at medium
>>
>mfw no drivers HD7970 still competes today
>mfw superior drivers shiny new GTX780 obsolete
>>
>>51980612
>Why did I fell for that card?!
no idea
>>
>>51980509
It's an excellent card for its price. If you expected it to outperform cards that cost twice its price you are retarded.
>>
>>51980612
I have pretty much the same specs but a 4690 i5 and games work fine unless they are super poorly optimized. Gonna upgrade my 750ti when 980s and such drop in price.
>>
>>51980612
What do you mean "fell for that card"?, You looked at benchmarks and you saw the performance right?
For the price is a good card, if you cheaped out on the principal game component then its your own fault, stop being so retarded trying to run everything on High and 1080p and you will be fine.

I can't wait for all the buttmad nvidiafags crying about "gimping 980" cards.

>tfw 390/X/290/x will be competing with 980

They already do.
>>
>>51980873
Logically, that makes sense because the 290/290X have more shaders and TMUs than a 980, the same number of raster outputs, and a wider memory bus with more memory. With low-level API, the hardware on the 290/290X has the 980 beat in nearly everything but clock speed.
>>
>>51980765
>For the price is a good card

Not really. The 750 Ti was never particularly strong in price to performance terms. You could pick up a 260X that offers the same performance for much less and a 270/270X for the same price that crushes it. It was impressive for its niche use scenarios though, allowing it to run in shit tier prebuilts where the AMD cards wouldn't.
>>
>>51980765
>for the price
This is wrong. It was wrong long ago and its still wrong today. There are much better offerings from AMD at the same price point.
>>
>>51980962
>>51980936
Not if you're an nVidia cuck

>>51980873
Well, nVidia is pushing for selective API to be used under dx12 so their cards can compete with AMD fully implemented dx12. Lets see how this end.

>>
>>51980936
I can easily find a 750Ti for 120€, but the 270 is like 180€ at best.

Just bought a 750ti over the weekend. This card is just so pretty, could be used as a display piece. Even prettier in person. Unfortunately it was broken. Green lines across the screen, was causing CMOS errors. Had to return it for a replacement.

Looks like the same flat black board, that is nice. The stock (forgot the term for this) AMD boards are always pretty cool. But for the price, im happy with my 105 dollar 750ti, I dont have the sheckles for a r9.

kek, what are you paying for with that card? Cucked performance?
>>
>>51981257
It's the same in America you nerd. The 270 Costa at least 1.5 times the 750Ti, they are not the same price at all.
>>
>>51981293
I have to ask, do you know actual purpose of backplate?

NIGGA that card is two years old

>>
>>51981361
Exactly. Thank you for showing that dipshit exactly why the card doesnt need an ugly ass backplate.
>>
>>51981381
>$650
>not even a decent cosmetic backplate
>not even metal housing
You can't justify the price of this card. I expect a higher level of build quality and aesthetics at this price. There is no reason why anyone should pay $100 over a Fury or a 980 when it has the same performance as one.
>>
>>51981403
Well its like it says in Mathew "do not cast your pearls before swine".
>>
>>51981441
The Nano is the sort of card that cucks buy for their wife's son
>>
>>51981479
No, they generally go for the big cards with lots of fans and backplates because it compensates for their small dicks.
