wtf is this shit?

TP-link 1043ND with dd-wrt

because who gives a fuck

would do openwrt but their instructions assume I'm some NEET with nothing else to do.
>>
>>51977530
>TP-link 1043ND with dd-wrt

How's the performance on that?
>>
>>51977543

so far so good. was getting wifi signal issues with the factory rom so I figured I'd give it a try. able to specify channels and shit with this so at the very least it's stronger.

everything else I have is hard-wired... only advantages here are more control over ports and static IPs, forwarded ports, dynamic dns, etc.

it was the cheapest gigabit wifi router I could find.
>>
>>51977565
>it was the cheapest gigabit wifi router I could find.

But does it meet or exceed your needs?
>>
>>51977583

yep. I have the 'fast' home cable internet package. just wanted gigabit for transfers between computers, as I remote into a couple of PC servers on my network that handle surveillance and other tasks, and transferring large files and streaming video was choppy/slow when I had a megabit router.

the wifi range extends out into my yard and across the street to the grocery store. before, it would hardly reach the other room.

I wish dd-wrt was more up to date, as I worry about security issues, but I don't have the time/need to worry too much about it.
>>

Netgear WNDR3700v4 + OpenWRT or some OpenWRT-compatible TP-Link equivalent? Or WNDR3700v5 hoping for OpenWRT support in future? Or something else entirely?

My layout is: ~50 Mbps PPPoE connection, 2 PCs over Wi-Fi, 2 tablets, 2 "NAS" devices (single drive WDs) attached via LAN cables.

nice! thanks for the tips!!! I have way more features now and SSH works.

PS I have a dumb netgear cable modem. renting cable modems is for chumps.
>>

also dude holy shit thankyou.

the newer ddwrt has a newer linux kernel which means support for >2tb HDDs... finally I can use the USB hub on the single USB2.0 port as I originally intended: for my ghetto-NAS (a 3tb drive and a 2tb drive). amazing. owe you a beer. can't believe I didn't know there were newer betas available.

One of these (TP-Link TL-WR841N)
Running old-ass OpenWRT on it (too lazy to update)
About 8-9 clients

Meh, somehow GUI is broken for OpenWRT and I can't be assed to fix it, so I do all the configuration through SSH

Also I can't go back to the stock firmware, since there's a hardware thing (I think) and the GUI wouldn't work there either and stock firmware has no SSH, so I'd be fucked

>Firmware Version OpenWrt Designated Driver r47953 / LuCI Master (git-15.352.67088-e42e5f5)
>Kernel Version 4.1.13

got 2 other APs, around 5 wired an 5 wireless clients

no problems so far, openwrt is 10/10 and the hardware is good too

always check for openwrt compatibility before buying and flash that thing before you even try doing anything with the stock firmware

Why after a while do routers just die? My rt-n56u has been working fine for 2 years and now it starting to give issues with constantly disconnecting the 5GHz that I use.
>>
I've bought a TP-Link gigabit router.
There is no hardware NAT support for my model and transfer speeds were unreliable as fuck. Everything else was a-ok, even installing/uninstalling was easy as hell.

It's a shame since it's one of the "well-supported" models but blame TP-Link for not releasing sources.

Model's TL-WDR3600.

ASUS RT-N56U

Stock firmware, don't see the need for anything else atm

>Network
2 desktops, one with Linux, one with Windows
1 server, running too many services
1 MediaPC connected to TV
1 Chromecast in the bedroom connected to a monitor for comfy watching

>are you satisfied
I want more than one server. The single server I have right now is running as a simple webserver, PLEX, ownCloud, file, backup and ssh. I want to add at least one more server that will act as a storage server for PLEX, torrenting, ownCloud and file serving.

Other than that, my mediaPC has a weird issue. Occasionally, it will crash, and when it does it takes the router down with it. This happens even if I install Windows or Linux on it.

fucking ancient Asus WL500 router (I think it only supports g, not even n) in access point mode (NAT, firewall, routing, all disabled) plugged into the finest, cheapest, 5-port gigabit switch Newegg would sell me, which is plugged into a dual-core pentium running pfsense.

Machines on it: Gaymen desktop (wired), server (wired), my main laptop (wired or wireless, depending on if I need to move files at more than a megabyte a second), my old laptop that sits under my bed (wireless), my parents' two laptops (wireless), their two phones (wireless), their netflix appliance box thingy (wireless. they hate buffering less than they hate running cables in the walls, apparently) and my phone (wireless)

I would've liked to have the router plugged straight into the pfsense machine on its own interface, since that'd make wireless clients unable to talk to wired clients, as I understand it, which would be a nice safety net if either I or my parents gets ourselves infected with something. But then I couldn't ssh into my server from my laptop, or use the windows remote desktop thing from my machine to my parents. But eh, it works, and it's more secure than it was when it was just that ancient router that hasn't had a new firmware release since like 2009.

I would advise people to be less stupid at networking than I am before setting up pfsense, that should not have taken me four hours.

>your router model or setup
I got a TP-Link AC1750 C7 as my entire network gateway, along with a virtual pfSense acting as a router to a DMZ.

>what firmware/OS and what version you have installed on it
OpenWRT 2.x on my C7 and pfSense 2.2 on my virtual machine

>describe your network: how many clients, servers, etc.
The C7 is linked to 2 major parts of my network. The home network, and the DMZ. The home network is connected to 3 access points that work together and connect all my home clients together. The DMZ is a single virtualization server running about 8 different clients.

>are you satisfied with your setup?
It's very secure and very flexible, so yes I am. It allows me to link up to the DMZ whenever I need to without worrying about whether the home clients are insecure.

>anything you would like to share to help others with a similar setup?
If you have a virtualization server, I highly recommend using a virtual machine running pfSense to manage your virtual networks. It's very easy to set up and it's very secure.

isp provided sagem 2504n

slightly modified firmware to unlock the shit they thought would be a fantastic idea to hide behind their offensively simple interface.

approximately 14 wireless clients, 1 gigbit switch for when i can't be fucked to endure shitty 100mbps transfers, around 5-6 wired clients, one NAS.

meh, it works and it's more secure than the surrounding networks which are all on default shit. I'm the only poweruser so everyone else is just happy the wifi works.

Turn wps off, it's a security risk, as is the default firmware on this router fucking hell.

I have an ASUS DSL-N55U, running stock ASUSWRT
3.0.0.4.376_2736-ge8d4e19
. There are 10-20 clients on the open wireless network.

I've ran into few bugs with ASUSWRT and there's no replacement. One bug in particular is that I can no longer see or modify the guest networks due to Unicode characters in one guest SSID.

I'd like to build an OpenBSD router after I move out of my ADSL2+ house. For wireless access, I'm still waiting for a good AC3200 MU-MIMO router. None exist yet as far as I know.

I'm also considering getting a Juniper EX2200, EX3300 or EX4200 but I don't like proprietary software and the latest Juniper screenOS "backdoors" are making me feel even more uncomfortable with this idea.

The ISPs in Finland usually offer various Zyxel and TeleWell routers. They are really awful, more bugs and more awful "what the fuck" UIs than any other router I've used. Glad I haven't had to touch one of those in a while.

I can also tell many of the TP-LINK routers have quite awful interface without OpenWRT or libreCMC.

By the way, who are you quoting? Quoting yourself doesn't count. Use semantics.

ASUS' new RT-AC88U router looks attractive. MU-MIMO and improved speeds over the older RT-AC87U.

I'm only concerned of the proprietary 256-QAM extensions.

Home wireless APs aside, I should probably look into other "business oriented" wireless access points too. Ubiquity UniFi and Aruba Networks' wireless APs come into my mind. Any others to consider for the highest, reliable throughput with MU-MIMO?

So, /g/, help me out here.

My place is a goddamn nightmare to have WiFi. There's 8 walls between one side of the house to another, so I setup 2 routers on each side of the house.

It would seem that that's the end of that, but weird shit is happening:

>If I only have one router, everything works fine

>If I plug in the second router via its internet in (WAN) port, that router doesn't work, even if I plug in a computer to LAN port.

>If I plug in the second router via a LAN port, it works, but the internet on both routers cuts off every now and then.

I know both the routers work by themselves.

I'm not sure why the WAN connection doesn't work, but I have a suspicion that when I connect it on the LAN ports and it acts as an access point, my ISP's router can't handle that many clients.

What am I doing wrong/what do I need to do to fix this?

Pic related: not my router, but this is what's going on.
>>
>>51984698
If you plug it in to your existing network via a LAN port then they'll both be fighting to serve DHCP.
If you plug it in via WAN they probably are trying to use the same IP range.

Put it in bridge mode and it should work.

Probably stupid question but here it goes

so I put OpenWRT on two routers
shits fine
when I go on their ip address the address goes from 192.168.0.1 in to
http://192.168.0.1/cgi-bin/luci

thac alright I always though, except when I connected router that was on 192.168.0.1 with stock firmware and I tried to connect to it.. the browser would go that cgi-bin/luci and failed there

I had to fire up different browser to go to the stock router..

whats up with that?
