I see that you never felt the power of zsh, OP.

Sure, zsh and the others usually have a bunch of additional nice features, and often also better syntax / defaults for scripting.

But I'm not saying you have to use them. BASH has remained the standard shell because it is at least okay, wasn't worth transitioning away from it for most distros.
>>
With bash-it, probably not.
>>
>>51976921
Zsh is a nightmare
Try fish
They have good code practice and actually put some thought in their shell
>>
>>51976466
literally 10/10
>>
>>51977744
Meh zsh ain't bad. I don't use ohmyzsh but pretty stock zsh is nice.
>>
zsh is bloat for people who can't configure their shell themselfes, basically the mac under the shells. if you search an alternative, try fish

You can't
Fish isn't 100% POSIX compatible, so some of your shit might not work

This is why scripts go into .sh files.

what's up with all the fishills?
>>
>>51977959
Yeah, if you do sh whatever.sh and the script file doesn't have #!/bin/bash at the top Fish will still use bash

Is there an app that lets you take pictures by pressing maybe a certain key combo while you have the keyboard on the screen so it doesn't look like you're actually snapping a picture?
>>
>>51977979
It has some bugs though, autocompletion behaves weird on sshfs, and I occasionally see it leaving its garbage in command history.
>>
>>51976466

Is something else the default root shell? Then yes.

Do you personally prefer something besides bash as your user shell? Then yes.

You should be making your scripts POSIX compliant anyway, so it really shouldn't matter what shell you're using, as long as it's not csh.

Everything I want in a bash alternative is to feel comfortable in the security of a minimal, modern alternative.

The problem with this is that no matter what you install, you can't actually get away from bash without totally crippling a system.
>>
>>51978126
just dont replace bash, its not difficult simply to run fish or zsh and exit it when you need bash

also, fully replacing a shell, can lead to serious errors since most programs espect a working sh shell

Fish is horrible. I wish people would stop writing terminal applications already.

We don't need teletypewriters anymore in the 21st century.

inb4 doesn't know how to use command line

Protip: you don't need a terminal to use a command line interface.

I usually organize simple scripts in functions on my zshrc, and larger, more elaborate scripts as separate files in /lbin, which points to /usr/local/bin. And on the same topic, ix and similiar utilities are awesome. You can share all sorts of stuff just with text.
