Wat?

I didn't fall for anything actually, I received this free from dell and did not pay a dime for it.

That said, my score is probably going to be the highest notebook/45 watt TDP score in this thread.

The more interesting button in that window is the stress CPU button.

Click it and see how long it takes your CPU to throttle itself, if it does it at all.

Correction,

Single thread runs at 4.4, but an all core load makes my mobo throttle the CPU to 20x multiplier, therefore the multi thread bench is at 4Ghz

Huh, well this validates my previous theory that a 7870k is just as good as a 6300.

I'll try bumping up to 4.4Ghz if I can later.
>>
>>51975288

I don't get the point of the single threaded benchmark, it's literally just the multithreaded benchmark divided by the number of cores you have. all my cores are still doing a fraction of the work to get the "single" threaded benchmark score.

Hyper 212 with two SP120s, a rear 120mm and top 140mm exhaust, a 120mm intake on the backplate.
I will be picking up a Cryorig R1 Ultimate later, though, just for peace of mind.

Prime pushes the chip into the mid 70's at 18C ambient when I set it to 4.36Ghz (218 bus * 20 at 1.33vcore) but she was built to handle 85C all day every day. This bench, doesn't even hit 60C.
At 4.36Ghz on all cores the chip is eating 250 watts.
With ambient temps like these the mobo doesn't go above 36 when I slam it as hard as I can.

The board (asus p6t-deluxe v2) simply has throttling in the firmware that locks the CPU to it's non turbo multi above roughly 185w of draw.
I run into QPI/Uncore theoretical maximums (4Ghz from 3.2 stock, more commonly advertised as 6.4 GigaTransfers) when trying for 4.5Ghz, or 225 * 20

I could crossflash it to the -WS variant BIOS which has a limiter removal but that's a huge pain in the ass for what little gain the chip and motherboard has left in it.

So, sorry for the word vomit, I'll be getting an R1 Ultimate and I'm looking at a x5680. Going to see if I can hit 4.8Ghz on air with 192 * 25, 3.45Ghz QPI
Long Live Nehalem

a lot of people on /g, and virtual everywhere else has been saying this for years.

a single piledriver core at 4ghz matches the single threaded performance of a 2009 i7 nehalem based core at 2.6ghz.

back in the day overclocked core 2 duos in the 3ghz oc range came close to, or matched nehalem based cpus at stock.

amd bulldozer and piledriver based processor are extremely weak. the only benefit to them is the multitasking. a 6350 as you have, or a 8350 offer much better multitasking, but for most games that utilize <= 4 threads, and every day stuff, you can beat a q6600. its raw power is amazing.

I've found that Nehalem/Westmeres with locked multipliers are finicky.

You have to make sure the uncore and QPI are at the very least a 1:1 ratio for the machine to boot. Generally it's most stable at about a 1.125:1 ratio (3700 QPI to 1650 RAM AKA 3300Mhz uncore, for example).
I do not run triple channel (yet) and I have heard that triple channel causes instability issues.

I have to overvolt the QPI/Uncore bus to nearly the maximum safe limit (1.4ish) to be stable above 3800
I have to overvolt to maximum safe (1.35 to the CPU which is 1.375 on the board, on air is Intel's own limit before physical damage) on the CPU to run 4.4Ghz
I haven't tested otherwise, but I turn off all virtualization options and obviously all power saving functions.

The machine will boot and run benches at 218*20, 4.36Ghz with hyperthreading on but the temps and power draw are fucking MASSIVE.
As I said, the system cannot really handle going higher than 4.4 at 20x because I hit the 8Ghz QPI/Uncore theoretical limit.

And to be fair, I am not good at overclocking. The fine interplay between ram speed, timing, the uncore and QPI elude me.

With all that said,
If you want to shoot for higher clocks you'll need to buy the x5670 or x5680.
I'd honestly much rather be doing 4Ghz at 181 bus than 4Ghz at 200, and with the more pricey 5680 it would be achievable at 160 bus.
