Is 4k worth it for laptops or is it a meme?
Assume I don't give a shit about gaming on it

4k is a meme unless your laptop screen is 30'

NX500 owner here, it improves the text sharpness some, since I sit close enough to it.
The screen doesn't look exceptional otherwise vs MBP (that I haven't used at integer scaling) or my other displays.

Asus puts pretty based screens in their UX line.

Its pretty good, not as dramatic as going from 1024x768 to 1080p but still very noticeable

Loving mine here. Makes programming in a laptop bearable.

Windows 10 scaling is still terrible and a lot of programs are not optimized for such high DPI displays. So it really depends on what you are doing with what.

If you're using Adobe software, it's generally fine as they have updated it in CC.

If you're using AutoDesk software, good fucking luck.

I had the UX501, then returned it because I didn't like the annoying scaling issues. Sure text looked great but a lot of photos and images online looked blurry and terrible.

Microsoft is probably trying to fix all of these issues but OS X does way better with this high DPI scaling stuff. So if anything, go install OS X on it.

this is my main concern

Windows stock came in some awful non-integer scaling. Shifting it back to 2x fixes the blur, but then it's just a 1080p display with sharper text. rMBP is so much nicer with scaling.

many programs ignore Windows scaling and does their own instead. When it does that, it either becomes unusable or blurry.

it's pretty dumb unless you really want to see the sweat on someones body down to the reflection.
