Either way on a budget if you don't own either, i'd rather an i5 and a cheap cooler than an i3 and a more expensive cooler. Can still OC the i5 and get better performance than anything the i3 will do with a better cooler. Assuming they're the same generation, each generation see's about a 5% performance increase. This may not seem like much, but after 6 generations that means a first gen i5 is about 30% slower than a similar 6th gen i5.

How can I have videos from YouTube from channels that I am subscribed to download automatically?
I know of YouTube-dl, but I don't think it has that feature. I'm on Linux if it matters.
I'm having some issues with my Nvidia GTX 560 ti. While browsing, the screen went completely black and didn't recover. The computer was still runnning but not displaying any information on the monitor. At this point I suspected it had something to do with my GPU or its drivers since it, from time to time, displays artifacts and resets with the message that "nvidia drivers ahve stopped responding and have reset". I decided to restart the computer, at which point I recieved the message that the computer was unable to restart and I was given the option of either trying to restart normally or for windows to detect and repair the issue. Neither of these options solved the issue. I decided to start in safe mode, and the computer successfully booted up. I uninstalled the nvidia drivers (they were not the latest version) and rebooted in normal mode. With the drivers uninstalled, I could use the computer and hoped installing the latest updates would remedy the situation. However, that was not the case - the situation merely repated itself - and I was back to square one. I would get BSOD with the error code 0x00000116 and the message "attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed". I would appreciate if anyone might have a clue as to how I may fix this.

If you don't see any dropped frames or choppiness in your video, you are probably seeing a higher quality video. Most 1080p streams are absolute garbage (just pause the video for a second to see what a still frame looks like). 1080p streams are more like semi-good 720p videos.

Like i said, it's pretty much core count. A game that utilizes multiple cores (above the i3's core count) will see a benefit of an i5. One that doesn't utilize the extra cores, will see no benefit.
That being said, an i3 will handle pretty much every game just fine with an appropriate card. A lot of games seem to be supporting more cores recently though. Still though, an i3 will handle everything.
As per /g/'s advice I bought a used X220 off of eBay. Put 8gigs of ram and 2 SSD's in it and it runs everything that I throw at it extremely well. My only gripe is the screen. 1366 x 768 is just not cutting it for what I need the laptop for.
So I'm thinking about jumping into the Mac ecosystem mainly for two reasons: I'd like to learn objective-c and the screen resolution is god tier. Plus the multiple desktop thing is pretty nice. I have used eOS as my main OS for the last year and while it's great, I need to be able to use Adobe Dreamweaver on the go.
I'm a freelance webdev, so money isnt really an issue.

Just 2 months ago I put together a build with an fx 8350 in it. I've been reading up benchmarks and more current games and it's kind of embarrasing, with even the haswell i3's beating it a lot of the time. Did I make a huge fuckup? You pretty much fucked up buying anything this gen, since everything afaik will be moving to new sockets soon. Especially AMD, AM3 is getting really old.
That being said, it's still a fine budget chip. When you do upgrade though, prepare to buy a new motherboard, processor and probably ram. You won't be buying anything much better for that socket.
What do you use it for? That also factors hugely into it. You won't notice much of a difference for a lot of tasks.
