Any of you guys know how much having a pc constantly for a month would cost for electricity?
>>
about 3.50
>>
>>51950908
just calculate it

a = price of electricity (cents per kilowatthour)
b = PC power consumption (watts)
c = hours on per day (hours)

let's say a = 13, b = 500 and c = 8

a * b * c / 1000
13 * 500 * 8 / 1000
52 cents per day

Ive always wanted to hook my desktop to a kill-a-watt. actively monitors amperage and wattage of what ever is plugged into it.

computers don't run at a constant wattage do they?

I have the exact same PSU in the OP pic, and I'm running an R9 280x with it. I've heard that the CX series "isn't for higher end gaming builds." I know a 280x isn't top of the line or anything, but should I consider switching to a new PSU? I hear the CX series is for low end graphics cards maximum.

You got memed on.

>computers don't run at a constant wattage do they?
no, it depends on the load. CPUs, GPUs and drives will draw a lot more power under load.
>>
>>51951261
If you are not overclocking your processor or graphics card you wont come near 500w usage.
>>
>>51951923
You have to account for all the other crap connected to your computer as well, plus how much you use the computer, and it'll easily go past 500w without overclocking if you're running something that isn't a toaster.

Here's the build:

I just heard that apparently the CX series is notorious for not using capacitors that are good enough for things like beefier graphics cards. Also apparently the max operating temperature is rate around like 30C?

Lol no it wont, shit for brains.
The only way you'd draw over 500w would be with 980 ti in SLI or fury in crossfire.
>>
It depends whether you have it on load or not and for how long. Assuming you encode video for 8 hours a day for a month (GPU idle):

~100 watts for an intel CPU + 20 watts for HDD, RAM, etc

120x8x31 = 24.8 kW

Assuming 16ยข/kW, ~4.00 $ a month. This of course will on average be lower because the scenario I described is batshit insane. Computers when idle will waste very little electricity, probably around 20 watts, less if put to sleep mode and nothing if turned off.

obv b8

a single 980ti and a 4690k at 4.5 w/ closed loop cooler will draw more than 500w easy
>>
>having a pc constantly
0 cents, once you pay for it, it's yours anon.
>>
Back when money was tight, I find that programs that auto-shut down the PC when you are at work or asleep are great. Saved quite a bit too.

You'll probably use about 50W idle, so at $.08/kwh about $3/month.
