coffee makers are tech, right?

Was thinking about getting my mother a keurig for christmas. What model is best?

What coffee maker does /g/ use?
>>
literally the appleshit of coffee makers, overpriced and retarded even if you use your own beans

I have a $2000 profesional grade expresso/coffee machine.

I piss better coffee than these machines make.
>>
I use a Kalita wave, a burr grinder, and a gooseneck kettle.

Lowest effort decent coffee is probably nespresso but they're expensive. Keurigs make pretty crap coffee.

A moka pot.
- no disposable parts like filters
- tastes great
- cheap
- lasts for years

I've been using one of these for many many years. Programmable auto grind and brew.

It's the Cadillac of coffee makers.

Starbucks Verismo machine. Girlfriend works at Starbucks and she won the $160 version. Honestly the best "at home, zero effort required" coffee I've ever had, and it can make proper espresso as well as lattes.

i wouldn't mind a chemex but it does the same as my V60 so not really much point.

Only complaint is it takes forever to brew
Not suitable for someone who wants a one step coffee process in the morning.
Much more of a sit down and experience coffee kind of thing

Damn that's a nice coffee maker. How much was it? Simple to use? I've been using pic related and it's time for a change.

Yeah I like these, no weird internals that are impossible to clean.
>>
>>51951094
It's a Capresso. They have changed its look on the current models, but same premise. Beans are stored, ground by burr grinder (at least my version) and then brewed into a carafe.

I'm on my second one. The first died after 12 years of daily use. Money well spent.

>>
>>51951138
First one was $190 second was $5 at Goodwill.
>>
>>51951119

I have an electric kettle. Use it all the time for tea and ramen. What are you talking about?
>>
>>51951138
Easy to use. Looks like its between $220 and $250 (thermal carafe) now.

>>51951173
dude get a V60
put filter in
either grind coffee/ or scoop ground coffee
put in filter
wait until water is under 96c
and poor until the cup is filled to your required amount
it's also cheap £5 for the V60 and £4 for 100 filters.

Hey OP
If you're willing to spend a few bucks. I'd suggest the Gaggia Brera
It's a superautomatic espresso machine.
It makes making espresso a one touch process
You do have to froth separately, but espesso machines that also froth in the one touch are going to be $1000 minimum

Don't get a Keurig, it will cost way more in the long run and you're stuck with Keurig approved coffee.

I just got the Impressa F7, this exact model, and it's great. Tons of settings to change. cleans itself and easy to maintain. You can stick to all the default settings if you want but the default coffees are in small portions and might be stronger than what you're used to. Only gripe about the machine is that the platform where you put your cup is made out of metal and makes a nasty scratching sound when you slide unpolished porcelain over it.
>>
>>51951119
What? When ever I go to Portland the hotel has a regular, plug in kettle in the room. I always boil my water because I don't trust American water.
>>
Coffee press is the only way to go. Get her that and a grinder unless convenience is of the utmost importance.

Keurigs always break. Mine broke, my girlfriends, my dad's, all broke about a year in.

I only used RO water and descaled the machine, but the pump just gave out. same thing with the others.

now I just use >>51950979 plus an electric kettle. Nothing to go wrong, and makes delicious coffee just as fast.

Keurig 2 will prevent usage of certain K-cups because that company didn't pay the troll toll. You have to CUT THE TOP off of approved K-cups and stick them on the illegal brands.
>>
>>51951138
Mr. Coffee is the nice coffee maker. This and a bean grinder are all you'll ever need.
>>
>>51951109
I use this

Does a pretty good job

I only drink black coffee tho

The results are basic but the taste is there
>>
I used a Keurig that was gifted to me for a few months. It's convenient in the morning, that's it. These things are a pain in the balls to maintain, especially if you have hard water (fuck Florida). On top of that, they make piss-weak coffee. Think about it, that little K-Cup, which has a preset amount of coffee is intended by Keurig to make three different sizes of coffee. On the most basic principle of making coffee that makes no sense, more coffee needs more beans.

I switched to using a French Press now, the coffee is makes is a fuck of a lot better and it's much easier to clean.

However; I will say, that the Keurigs are very fucking convenient. Going through the process of making coffee in the morning with a French Press when you're groggy and haven't had coffee yet can feel like an act of attrition. That's slight hyperbole, but comparing it to a Keurig, it's not.

So, if your mother just wants a quick cup of coffee in the morning that she's going to inevitably drown in sugar/creme, then the Keurig isn't a bad choice. However; if your mother actually gives a shit about what her coffee tastes like at a base level, then avoid at all cost.
>>
I got a Keurig for free and it's alright.
I don't think people clean it like they should.
>>
>>51951345
I came into this thread to recommend one of these. They're cheaper if you buy refurbished, and make way better coffee, and you're not stuck with k cups.

You do have to empty out the grounds around once a week, and you also have to run out a clean cycle around once every 3 months or so, but it's pretty easy.

This, but it's only one serving

Gaggia for Illy plus here.

If you are just going to make regular coffee you really should just use a french press or moka pot.

The only way to get good coffee is iperespresso or a full on espresso machine.

OP I recommend this machine, you spend a bit more but you get foam with your coffee and it does taste a bit better I guess.

>>51950638
Moka pots are shit. Seriously, it's a low quality way of doing things. Try an alternative. I much prefer an aeropress or french press.
