You need to install a proper package manager first.
Desktop 2.4k, server 1.2k.

I k ow this a Linux thread and all but as a windows user its amazing to me that there's no real way to list the number of installed programs in windows. Man I remember being semi excite for windows 8 because the app store could have been the start of package management in windows instead its just mobile app garbage.
Just rip off chocolatey already winblows

You should really install gentoolkit. Everyone who uses Gentoo / Funtoo uses eix and gentoolkit and stuff like that. They are very useful.

What are the downsides of having a lot of packages? Besides having less disk space, obviously.
>>51948984
Microsoft really should add proper package management to Windows. I would imagine it would cut down the amount of malware as well.
>>51950037
pretty sure i've heard they are working on one.
not that it would make me want to reinstall windows, but at least that's happening, i think.

It is a program. It is 'packaged' with information as to its dependencies, manual pages, etc. The package manager manages this, it fetches the necessary dependencies and assures the user the system has all the necessary dependencies for its various packages to work.
>>51951536
Also, git gud. Pick an afternoon and a spare disk and spend it installing arch, even if you don't use it ever again. Install arch, understand what you did, then launch uzbl or another esoteric browser and come back to shitpost more.
