Lighter and faster are two different words for a reason.
The beauty is you turn it on once and it could very easily stay up for 100 days.
Windows on the other hand... forces your PC to reboot every other week to update the NSA backdoor.
My Debian laptop boots from its SSD in like 6 seconds. Not the operating system's fault if you are using deprecated hardware.
hit backspace 28 times to skip signing as a time saver.
My loonix boots faster than Windows on an SSD, it boots in about 5 seconds. Windows takes like 10

the linux kernel scheduler is worse than Windows, this is why there is the ck patch which poorly attempts to match up with windows NT god tier kernel. sure systemd lincucks boots a bit faster but overall it's shit on the desktop

The need for that IO scheduler has been long outdated. Linux has a scheduler that does what that does.

Many distros are not as bloated as Windows 8 or 10 and may require less RAM to run well, but loading stuff from a HDD has been a bottleneck for ages. There's not much the OS can do about that.
Once the system is running and has cached its basic stuff it usually runs smoother than Windows, though. Windows may have a bit of an advantage in some cases with its very good interactivity scheduling tricks; many Linux distros are more optimized for server usage than responsiveness.

Widows spends ages loading things while dropping you into the desktop.
Also, windows 7 is pretty damn slow to boot, and most linux distros are pretty fast.
