>>
>>51941067

Honestly? At that price point it doesnt fucking matter if you get 2 Xeons and 4 way SLI 980Ti's, but okay.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HRnRrH

It's probably shit, but I'm really only good at making builds for other people when the rig is for vidya.
>>
>>51941170

In terms of essentials (CPU, GPU, and RAM), I'd say 8/10. In general though? 7. SLI isn't super important and it matters more to have 1 really great GPU than 2 good ones.

I'd get 8 gigs of Corsair RAM, 16 is unnecessary unless you do heavy workload tasks. The Z97 PC Mate will do just fine, and at that price range, I'd get an EVGA G2/P2 instead.

Judging by the CPU cooler and "k" processor I'm assuming you'll be overclocking. Just note that the 4690k will last for years before you need to upgrade to play games at minimum settings.

Otherwise excellent build.
>>
>>51941171

That's similar to the build I had in mind. Is there a reason to go xeon given their low clock speed vs overclocking that i7?

For example I know workstation GPUs have drivers and shit that are locked down on gaming GPUs. Is there a similar benefit to sticking with workstation CPUs?
>>
>>51941212
yup the mobo is subject to change, i will look into the PC mate since it seems pretty popular.

as for the RAM i know i dont really need 16 depends on what specials pop-up when i do pull the trigger

Whats up guys. So My main machine is more than adequate for gaming, but an overclocked i5 and r9 390 is too power hungry to turn on just for late night shit posting/anime/porn when I get home from work at 2:30 AM.

That said I've built myself an itx machine. I am powering a single 32" 2560x1440 monitor and the integrated R3 graphics in my APU seems to struggle. Certain animations in Linux Mint take a while, not to mention the CPU is so slow, even firing up Firefox with minimal addons takes 11 seconds off an SSD. Abysmal.

Looking to replace my current garbage with this.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/JVgMzy

Will this setup allow me to watch 1080p bluray rips, as well as run Firefox with 10+ tabs without slowing down? As it stands I have everything in this list already other than motherboard and CPU. Just including it so you know what I'm working with.

I'm not above getting a low power nvidia card either. I'm just looking for a super low power setup for general browsing.

These will all be gotten from microcenter. It was either this or the AMD a6 7400k but as much as fan as I am of AMD cards, their CPUs are lack luster and offer more trouble with Linux than they're worth.

that's the thing, this card is supposed to last me another 2-3 years at least

would the extra power of a 290x extend the card's life significantly more? I mean, in in a year or two I feel like I lack the power, I could always add a 2nd 290, right?

also, is there any explicit downside to crossfiring two different cards?

Be gentle with some of the mounting on the Thermaltake cases. They're cheap with good reason, but it's probably the most versatile cases you can find.

hello anon! and yes being so used to the instant response of my main machine has me spoiled. While I got this Sempron 3850 for $25 and the motherboard for $0.01 both brand new, I can see now why they're.

I tried a dedicated GPU (R5 230, GT730) but this crappy AM1 motherboard just says "Cannot find pcie device" then screen goes black.

I only have that PSU because that is what I have laying around. I'd be lucky to ever even use 75w with this build I have in mind, but quality low wattage PSUs are like quality hard drives less than 1TB now a days. Almost impossible to find, and if you do, usually more money than it would be to buy the bigger one anyway.

The 290X and 290 are the same card albeit the non X 290 has less shaders thus less performance across the board. Usually about 7-10% less than an X model.

You CAN xfire them, however the 290X will turn off the necessary number of shaders required to play nice with the non X 290. As for lasting 2-3 years, get an r9 390. The 8gb vram really helps. Games like GTA 5 and modded skyrim already use around 6ish gb of vram for me at 1440p.

Lastly I wouldn't recommend getting a 2nd 290 at all. They're power hungry, loud because how close they'll be to each other, and many games didn't even have decent xfire support. Your max FPS may be higher in some games with xfire on, but you'll get FPS dips down to the mid-teens as compared to a single card.

>Former 290 xfire owner. One of my 290's broke, RMA'd, they sent me a 390. Been using the 390 stand alone and don't regret it.
>>
>>51941933
I think a 390 would be enough, the extra shaders aren't worth the $100.
If the last die shrink indicates anything, the R9 390 will be equivalent to a R9 470/GTX 1060 in performance, an R9 460/GTX 1050 at worst.
>tfw your two 980Tis will get out performed by two $300 cards
>>51941955
The panels are flimsy and some of the screws are made of soft metal, which makes them easier to strip. In the four builds I've made in thermaltake v1/21 cases, I've probably ruined six screws in total and RMA'd one because one of the screen panel arrived with a massive dent.

Brands don't really matter anymore. I think all the notoriously bad RAM manufacturers went bust before 2008. The only thing you should be looking at are the reviews, the CAS latencies, and the frequencies. Make sure to get matching frequencies.

pretty much any brand is good for RAM now for ddr3. Usually just get what is either in your price range, fits your needs, if you like their appearance etc.

The blue ones are CL8 with 8-8-8-24 timing while the red ones are CL9 with 9-9-9-24 timing.

Difference in real world? Nothing. Difference in very specific synthetic benchmarks (aka bullshit no one cares about)? Less than 1% difference.

Those are rather expensive for 8gb kits of ddr3. Most 2x4gb kits are in the $45-$50 range now. Look for something from Crucial, Kingston, Corsair, or Mushkin. All reliable.

Using the same 2x4gb kit of Corsair Vengeance LP 1600mhz CL9 I bought for $35 6 years ago.
>>
>>51942031
Right off the bat, swap the 850 PRO for something much cheaper. The differences in game loading times between this and an OCZ ARC 100 or Crucial BX100 is negligible. Your boot times won't be perceivably shorter either.
I would say only get the PRO if you edit or produce content like 1080p uncompressed videos or heavy rendering work. The PRO is best for writes and longevity, for the average use the PRO is overkill to the point of wastefulness. For $40 more, I could get a 1TB Mushkin Enhanced Reactor which is my favorite 1TB SSD at the moment. It's as good as the Crucial MX200.

Other than that, you might want to look into a an R9 Fury, preferably a Strix or Sapphire. The XFX version is okay, but avoid the watercooled Fury, since you can get a full Fury X for that price these days.

no mine was a Powercolor PCS+. Mine had black screen issues that even BIOS flashing couldn't fix. Bad memory module. If it isn't something on your card like fans being bad, they might send you a 390 replacement but I wouldn't bank on it.

>>51942078
yea called VGA passthrough. You use one VGA for Linux (such as intel igpu), and use the monster GPU for windows. Lets you runs Windows and Linux side by side and Windows actually has full drivers etc all running simultaneously. It is like a VM though. Have to dedicate cores from the CPU to windows and to Linux so an 8+ thread CPU would be ideal here.

I was thinking of doing this but I'm only on a single monitor. Plus like I mentioned, want a low power build.

Yes, but I doubt the switch to pascal will be worth it if you have a $500+ card. It's not like your card will suddenly stop working once Pascal and Arctic Islands cards release. Your 390 will be on par with a $150-200 card and a R9 Fury will be on par with a $300 card.

Either get the cheapest card for the resolution you're playing at (370/950 for 1080p) to minimize your loss, or buy the best card you can afford and run it for the next few years when upgrading would give you a better than 50% performance improvement.

Your 390 will do you good at 1080p for the foreseeable future. I'd say skip Pascal and upgrade when Volta or whatever the next generation is called comes out. 8GB of VRAM and a decently powerful GPU makes the 390 the best aging card for the price this generation.

I am genuinely jealous of all those people who bought a 290X at launch and are still using them today while keeping up with a GTX 980. AMD did good with Hawaii.

-The i7-6700k and H100i are fine.
-Motherboard is fine
-If you want faster, high speed RAM then get 3Ghz or just get the normal 2400mhz. You won't see a difference.
M.2 SSD is not used for gaming and is a waste of money. Get a regular 850 EVO or Pro.
-WD Red's are surveillance drives. Look into a 7200RPM drive if you want to put games on it. WD Black or Hitachi UltraStar
-I personally wouldn't SLI as CrossFire yields better results but eh.
-Case is ok
-SeaSonic PSU would be best case. That's not the best EVGA PSU either.

I got all the parts expect the PSU which I'm waiting o deliver. Kinda excited how this build will go

PSU is about 200W overkill but other than that the rest looks good. EVGA SuperNova G2 650W Gold would've been ideal but enjoy nonetheless

swap out the motherboard for an ASRock Z170.

Why does he want a Z platform for a non-k processor?

I already have the MOBO, RAM, case, and PSU. Are the other parts okay?

I want to upgrade my PC, I have 400 €, an Intel Core i5-3570K @3.4Ghz, 8go of RAM and a Radeon HD 7800. My pc is mostly for vidya, I don't have any bias toward Nvidia or AMD.

Here is a picture of Ted Danson for your time, thx.

Keep the SDD and swap the HDD. I feel like you could get better performance/cost if you used a 4th gen cpu and ddr3 ram, but that's up to you.

>>51944594
the psu is a waste of money unless you consider a long term investment. looks similar to my build.

>>51944686
If you can afford, buy the Samsung 850 Evo 250GB. The rest looks good.

3 components doesn't make a pc, ted.

Can i improve it more? cap is 1400
