Should I get Skylake or Haslel? I'm building a new rig but not looking to overclock.
>>51940915
wait for Skylake-E
depends how much you want to spend
the 6600k is on special on amazon for 250$ right now
>>51940915
wait for zen
>>51941098
Oops. I forgot to mention that I don't want anything less than an i7.
AMD falls under that category. >>51941126
>>51941126
>wait 1 year for a card that will match haswell
muh sides
Don't be a fucking moron, stick with Haswell. Intel somehow managed to make single thread performance WORSE on skymeme chips.
>anime poster makes low quality thread
nothing to see here LMAO
>>51940931
>>51941126
why do people say to just wait all the fucking time. If listened to /g/ a year ago I would still be with out a pc because >wait for skylake >wait for next gen radeon.
New technology is constantly improving. You can't wait forever you know.
>>51941350
Zen is going to be amazing, anon
you just wait and see.
>>51941358
Same was said for the 390 series and skylake, and now that skylake is released it's all >b-but wait for zen! or >wait for Skylake-E
>>51940915
Xeon 1231v3
>>51941386
But the 390 is about the best mid range GPU you can buy
and we didn't know skylake was only going to be a 5% IPC upgrade
Skylake. Wait for prices to come down in the spring before summer.
>>51941651
Enjoy your lower single thread performance.
>>51941683
OP here. I'm mostly gonna use it for games, Photoshop, and streaming once in a while. Do I need to worry about single- or multiple-core performance for that?
>>51941711
Nah but you should still get haswell since skylake costs more and has oretty much the same performance.
>>51941711
single core performance matters more in most games but there are some that take advantage of the additional cores well. but across the board skylake doesn't improve much at all in videogames
i5 6600, h170 with two pcie 3.0 16x, 8gb ddr4 all for like $350
>>51941489
>390
>midrange
>>51942068
>>51941750
I'm coming from a laptop that I've had for three years. Are both equally future-proof?
>>51942162
200-300 is mid range
>>51941711
>streaming
get x99
4 cores for gaming
2 cores for streaming
>>51942169
not them but yeah; you can drop an i7 into the mobo you decide to get.
>>51942215
Or just use your GPU to stream with almost any set up
>>51941350
>why do people say to just wait all the fucking time.
Because they assume that everyone has a comparable system like them, and upgrading isn't worth it.
If you have no or an outdated system it obviously doesn't apply.
>>51941489
>and we didn't know skylake was only going to be a 5% IPC upgrade
That's what I and others assumed.
