MAKE IT STOP

taskkill /im svchost.exe /f

it's just reserving your ram for other applications xD don't worry about it. ^_^ definitely a feature :-*

Resource manager.
Filter by CPU.
Select svchost.
Expand services sub-category.
Filter by CPU.
Right click and restart the offending service if it's really going nowhere.

It's probably windows update throwing a fit.
>>
>>51938191
Update service is checking for updates most likely.
Either disable said service or wait the required time.

Why exactly does the windows update service eat up a ton of resources verifying updates? Why not use something simple like MD5?
>>
>>51938191
>Right click, show services
>>
>>51938734
Planned obsolescence, plainly.
>>
TFW Windows 7 is legitimately unusable on 2gb of RAM due to the RAM usage of Windows Update.
>>
>>51938191
just kill the process. you may have to do it more than once. it will eventually work right tho.
>>
>>51938191
I think that's net framework optimization, I remember hating it and always killed the process

then I got a proper OS
>>
>>51938191
Whenever I kill that process it starts up 2 or 3 more times before stopping completely and it also makes my firefox menu bar look weird. the minimize/maximize/exit buttons are all either cut in half or hidden completely. I can still click on them.
Shits annoying.

You have a trojan.
>>
>>51940957
I thought so at first as well, but I did a clean install and it still comes back. It actually has me believing that one of my RAM sticks is broken, I keep getting memory out of range blue screens, and I think it might be from that process taking up 2 GB at a time.

It's a service. Sometimes they're set to restart if terminated.

Fucking Microsoft
I stopped it and haven't restarted the PC since.
I'm scared anons
>>
>>51941038

Why? It's a scheduled windows update task running. Just disable it in the scheduler.
>>
>>51941038
lulz, win10 is the greetast ous evarr
>>
>>51941038
We see here in the wild the lesser wincuck in its natural habitat. As you can see the wincuck is afraid of strange noises made by it's master the greater wincuck, however the greater wincuck could not stop him if he tried to escape but he continues to bend to his master's will without question due to the supply of gamerfuel.
>>
>>51941047
Why would it run when I told Windows not to update?

>>51941053
I'm worried they were attempting to give me Win 10 even though I stopped updates and removed the offending GWX updates

Mountain Dew is great :^)
>>
>>51938444
How's your migraines going, Kalenko?
>>
>>51941078

Because by default it's still in the scheduler. You have to go in there and remove / disable the task.
>>
>>51938191
It could be from search indexing. Turn it off and see if it helps. You'll have to reboot.
>>
>>51941114
Nope.
The only things scheduled are Adobe Acrobat/flash updates and HDD defragmentation
I checked.

>tfw even ChromeOS only uses about 300mb of ram
>the resource hog of browsers made a light operating system somehow

I've never really understood the point of svchost.exe. I mean, I get that it exists to host COM servers, but wtf, if you want your COM server to exist that way, why don't you just supply an executable?

And if Microsoft is going to implement this dumb svchost.exe idea, why didn't the show the command line in Task Manager form the get-go?
>>
Go to the task manager then go to processes and right click svchost.exe. Click go to services, chances are extremely high that this particular svchost is from Windows Update.
>>
>>51938734
It has to compute every potential configuration and dependency. You save network bandwidth on update Tuesdays but destroy computers between service packs. Win7 SP2 never.

>>51941218
The way I see it, it's most likely retard proofing. You can't kill a vital task you can't recognize.
>>
>>51938191
>30% CPU

How's that single core DUO working out for you?
>>
>>51941078
>Why would it run when I told Windows not to update?
Windows Update will update even when you tell Windows Update not to update Windows.
>>
>>51942384
>duo
>single core
Fucking moron.
>>
>>51938223
it pops right up
>>
>>51942384
on single core DUO it's actually 50%
>>
>>51938369
this
>>
>>51942760
>>51942563

DUO = 2 cores, hence 50% CPU and not 100%.
>>
>>51940699
I've got some very bad news for you then. Systemd is literally going to do for Linux, what svchost.exe has done for Windows.
>>
Windows update on 7 is error, you need to update it. Google it to download the KB.
