ITT we post cute technology we want.
I like qt tech
I'd buy it but I have no use for it.
Got a seidon 120v plus in my main pc amd an a1-v10 in my other build.
Still want it though ;_;
>>51938079
I've always wondered, does that have a pump?
>>51938130
yeah, on the video you can hear the little bastard screeching away.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwc7Hs33cAk
>>51938175
God damn that noise.
How can he stand it? I'd have wrapped the pump up with foam or something to reduce it.
Doesn't sound so cute.
What about cute tech that we caved and bought?
Here's the least powerful server ever! OSS hardware too.
It runs Debian, has CLISP, and I sometimes play games of Crawl on it.
gameboy micros are qt
My dad has one of these. It is indeed quite qute.
>>51940308
For those wondering, that's a Zipit Z2. You can probably still find them on eBay.
I have one, it only has 32MB ram. Never found much of a use for it. It does connect to Wifi. I'll probably just use it to test and see if my code can run on a constrained embedded device.
Sadly, I couldn't play nethack with my Linux build.
>>51940308
Can you even go on 4chan with that?
>>51938079
Why...
>>51941155
Sick dubs anon, where'd ya get 'em?
>>51941617
Not him but probably could with a cli browser like Lynx or Elinks
>>51941623
why not
overclocking
looks cool
>>51941667
Sounds like shit tho baka desu sempai
Listen to >>51938175
>>51941617
I can, though it is quite limited... I have images, and limited JavaScript, but this isn't going to look pretty any time soon.
Have a not-screenshot. (I don't have anything on there to take one currently.)
>>51941642
Elinks, yeah.
>>51941706
>that image
Why is old tech so beautiful and new tech shit?
Is it actually going downhill in design or is it just nostalgia?
>>51941623
ooooverclocking
>>51938079
That's fucking hilarious.
>>51941769
>>51941667
Is it worth it tho.
Seems inessential tbqh
>>51941759
A little of both I think...
I personally think modern design is beautiful, but the way it is executed is progressively getting worse. Simplicity is elegance, and old interfaces were simple.
>>51941706
my god, I remember elinks
it was great desu
>>51938175
makes me want to swat the damn thing like mosquito.
>>51938175
The only way this could be better would be if it had a 120mm radiator or something. Hell make it one of those giant 240x120 radiators. The Pi shall be cool.
>>51941155
>Nethack
Oh? What Linux did you put on yours? Mine had Emdebian Grip. (Which has since been dist-upgraded to Squeeze.)
Nethack was a simpleaptitude install nethackaway.
I had some trouble finding out what to do with mine too, though that's why I put CLISP on it--so I could write little servers and stuff for it. Writing anything substantial is a bit painful on the Z2 keyboard, so I usually just use Emacs TRAMP to write things on it.
>>51941881
What do you mean *was* great?
>>51941947
I don't know what distribution was on it. I could install it, but my system didn't have efficient usage of RAM. Nethack wouldn't fork, it would give a shell error.
>>51941947
>>51942385
Also, there's some cool hardware mods out for the Zipit on had:
http://hackaday.com/2010/09/18/usb-host-comes-to-zipit/ (USB port)
http://hackaday.com/2010/06/24/adding-a-serial-port-to-the-zipit/ (Serial port)
Cute
>>51941623
Quite simply "because you can"
>>51942489
What a cute bomb
>tfw I will never have one
>tfw I win the thread
>>51942529
>The USB port says "YAY"
>>51942587
How the fuck did I never notice that
Also always wanted a fish tank computer but it just feels like a waste of time when what I already have just works.
I guess it can be cute if I use itx.
>>51942529
what is this I want it
>>51942731
Don't know what that board is, but ODROID has some similar looking things. Be careful, their shipping can be ludicrous.
http://www.hardkernel.com/main/main.php
>>51942694
How is this even possible? How is the power supply not fucking everything up? Or the motherboard?
I want to do this, but it just seems so insane.
>>51942731
That is a VIA.
I want one too.
VIA epia p910 pico itx.
I miss VIA ;_;
>>51942784
Look up submerging computers in mineral oil. I'm pretty sure that's what it is.
Mineral oil is non-conductive, unlike water.
>>51942801
I get all that...but it blows my mind that the PCI-e lanes or the power supply wouldn't ruin the entire thing. I guess I've never used mineral oil in my life. It looks like a great "I did that" project.
>>51942801
Water itself isnt conductive, the disolved minerals naturally found water is.
>Get it right get it tight
>>51942587
Cannot be unseen
>>51942826
Yeah, it's on the to do list for me too. I wonder how it compares to water cooling in terms of efficiency.
>>51942832
I'm long done with that portion of college.
>>51942826
It works but it's going to get nasty. And expensive.
Also, all that does is increase the thermal mass. Once you heat up the oil, it's going to fry since the oil has no effective way of dissipating heat into the air around it.
>>51942826
It's definitely fun, but iirc you need to keep the oil moving so you don't get heat buildup.
Also not sure about maintenance.
>>51942832
>minerals in water are conductive
>mineral oil isn't conductive
Logic.
>>51942854
>there is only one mineral in the world called "minerals"
>>51942842
>>51942852
>>51942854
To keep the oil moving, does that mean some serious fan action? It looks big/heavy, but definitely a conversation piece.
>>51942904
The fans will do it, albeit slowly.
But still unless you're actually cooling the oil, that tank is just going to radiate heat and fry your shit.
>>51942915
a setup like that is only good for short bursts of intense use, like benchmarking
while the oil will do a good job of soaking up heat, you still need to remove the heat from the oil if you want to run it continuously
>>51942954
>you still need to remove the heat from the oil if you want to run it continuously
yeah that's what I meant. Not radiate.
>>51942915
What if you pump the oil through a custom loop?
A dual rad should be enough?
As well as a few fans inside the tank to keep the oil moving.
>>51942954
How's this usually done? Maybe a thermoelectric cooler, or a radiator of some sort?
>>51942981
That could work but you would still have to clean the oil and probably replace anything rubber
>>51943076
just like other water cooling systems, only think of the oil tank as a reservoir
basically;
tank > pipe > pump > radiator+fan > pipe > back to tank
>>51943162
also, another thing you need if this was a permanent setup would be some way to filter the oil to keep it free of contamination
>>51943118
Mineral oil absorbs plastic?
How has this not been posted yet?
>>51943076
These guys have had a submerged PC for several years now and have documented it all with notes and videos
https://www.pugetsystems.com/submerged.php
They also sell stuff for submerged PCs, but it's incredibly expensive. If you were wily enough, you could make something similar yourself without much effort.
