Get comfy and watch the Computer Chronicles friends.
Young-folks please don't get to sad about how awesome things used to be; I'm sure people will look at the 2000's with similar fondness...maybe...

Heh. Back when the center of the computer universe was still on the East Coast...
(though the writing was already on the wall...)

I wonder if the equivalent of these people now a days would have this kind of extensive knowledge.
Then again they would never do anything fun like this anymore; for maybe obvious reasons but maybe not.
Or maybe they would? I don't know, hopefully I am just being cynical.

wow. the history. Ardent and Stellar in the same room.
They merged to become Stardent, and promptly got put out of business by SGI, which lasted a few years before commodity PC graphics hardware caught up and put them out of business in turn.
Also, LOL at young Bill Joy.

>Then again they would never do anything fun like this anymore; for maybe obvious reasons but maybe not.
Not true at all. It's just a much bigger industry than it used to be. 'Big events' are proportionally much smaller.

Looks cool. Bookmarked the channel for later.

So you are saying that the heads of very relevant companies would get together and do a gameshow for fun?

Up and coming companies, sure.
Bump for interested people

Isn't it what we do here every day?

I meant for the game show video I posted where a bunch of important industry people come together for a "East Coast Vs. West Coast" fun trivia game.

MITCH BE OWNING ALL YOU BITCHES
Was looking for a retro thread, but this'll do.
I'm looking for a forum about minicomputers/mainframes, a la PDP-8's or the Data General nova.
Anyone know the site I'm thinking of?
>>51942808
Is it this one?

It's also available at archive.org, btw.

It wasn't IBM's fault. It was Microsoft's fault, they murdered a genius

I fucking love listening to The Computer Chronicles at work. It's so god damn comfy.

>it was IBM
>it was Microsoft
It was his own fucking fault.
IBM turned up on his doorstep, they wanted his OS, and he didn't think it would be a good idea to be there. His wife 'handled' it - by 'handled' it, basically she and her lawyer looked over the non-disclosure agreement IBM whipped out, and didn't agree to it. They sent IBM away, and IBM went back over to Microsoft, who didn't give them a second chance.
FYI, this is a really interesting book.

Doesn't look like it, pretty sure the one I saw was active.
