Why do 99% of your builds have this stupid awkward piece of shit in it?
>>
I have one of these on the way.

How long till I destroy my motherboard trying to install it?
>>
Because the price to performance ratio is breddy gud and hard 2 beat senpai
>>
>>51936329
Because they're good at what they do.
>>
>>51936329
Because it's a great cooler and it costs like $25
>>
>>51936329
I don't know anon.
People seems to love to have a fucking brick that leverages on your cpu socket so that you're forced to mount a super backplate to avoid breaking everything.
>>
Because it's cheap and good. Ain't nothing stupid about it.
>>
>>51936368
Also it's great that it takes up 1-2 ram slots.
>>
>>51936344
Make sure to take the mb out of the case and be prepared to cut yourself on the fins.
>>
>>51936344
Friendly reminder: Wear gloves.
>>

>>51936425
I was never warned about this before. Thank you gentlemen.
>>
I usually recommend Cryorig.
>>
>>51936368
>implying they are heavy and made from lead
>>
>>51936329
For many years, this was the absolute best air cooler you could get at a cheap price, and find in-store anywhere. There are better options these days, especially since components just don't run as hot as they used to. But still, this product has a long following and more information and benchmarks done with it than any other cooler out there, and that counts for a lot.

>We have to project a new cpu heatsink
>This new design is going to give us super low temperatures
>Wow Pajeet you're a genius
>Mass production
>Put the mobo in the case for the first time
>ohshit we forgot that most cpu cases are towers that stand vertically
>shiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeetttttttt

I'm not hating this cpu heatsink in particular, I just hate this kind of heatsinks model.
>>
When my motherboard blew out on my two year old build, I couldn't quite remember what exactly about taking my computer apart and putting it back together again was the most irritating thing.

Then I tried reinstalling the pictured cooler. Fuck that thing. I had to retry at least 3-4 times because of that piece-of-shit bracket would never align correctly. And the best part is that the replacement motherboard was a B75 that didn't even support overclocking, so it's just a big hunk of useless metal keeping my CPU at room temperature for no reason.

Someone recommend me a cooler that is the easiest to put on. For my next build, my criteria for picking a cooler will begin and end with ease of assembly.
>>
>>51936655
dh-15 senpai
>>
Corsair 200r case, installing this fan was a breeze, didn't need to remove the mobo or anything actually. Already have LP RAM so it wasn't an issue either. My only annoyance was the bracket doesn't clip to the fan so it slides around when installing. Plus it was only 20 bucks with the rebate.
>>
>>51936802
Moubting bracket doesn't clip to the cooler base is what I meant, not the fan itself.
>>
>>51936329
I installed one of these the other day on a mid tower without taking the mobo out of the case. The only hard part was lining up the screws to place it on the processor. Took about maybe 5 minutes of lining up.
>>
Had to rma this because it was too big for my case. What should I get instead?
>>
>>51936854
Did you not think of that before buying it?

Get on my level, this thing weights over 1kg and almost touches the other side of the case. I went through a super cooling craze when I built my last machine (3770), never again.

Not as good as the 212, but still great value for what you're getting in my opinion.

Depending on what kind of case you have it may be easier to install inside instead of taking it out, Fractal R4 has a huge cutout which make it easier to install/remove with the motherboard secured down.
>>
Ha, i have been on liquid so long i have never owned one of these or encountered them. Last week i put my brothers rig together and it had the heatsink pictured. I almost put a shotgun in my mouth trying to decode the fucking picture manual. Dies nobody at cooler master know how to write words?
>>
>>51937959
I kinda want one of these beasts for my Xeon. Getting it to fit inside my case though will be undoubtedly interesting.
>>

I think mine has the stock intel. Either that or a cheap ass Rosewill. Don't overclock and don't give a shit.
>>

They can't help it if you have a room temperature iq.
>>
because no one wants to spend 100 dollars more on a water cooler for 15% decrease in temps, unless your an autistic tryhard.

also the noctua air cooler is just as good temp wise as any water cooler you throw at it.

water cooling is a meme
>>
>>51936396
only if youre a gaymer underage b& faggot who needs freaking heatsinks on ram and leds everywhere, theres enough room for normal size ddr3 sticks in there
>>
The first one I did I used it, after that, no, no point. Not a significant change in temperature to bother with it and the stock Intel cooler was plenty good.
>>
because it does the job

fits in mine fine, whisper quiet, sick temps

Are you assholes really serious? This thing took me like 30 minutes to put in the first time I ever put together a computer and I was taking an especially long time because I was packing TIM in the grooves between the direct contact pipe surface.

Now I'm using an nh-d14... Get on my level, plebs

If AMD made pico itx you'd need it.

It didn't take me too long the first time around. Just a matter of watching how-to videos in preparation, I suppose.

>>
>>51940326

No, I'm serious - for people that overclock, the alternative are chintzy "all in one" units that cost more for the same level of performance with pumps that aren't serviceable. An old fashioned tower cooler has no moving parts and will work forever unless you smash it. The fans might wear out, but they're really replaceable (and the all on one water cooling units run fans too).
>>
>>51940491
it's not that it's the best heatsink ever manufactured.
it's just that it's cheap as fuck and quite gud
>>
>>51936329
They're cheap and very good.
The only bad thing about them is the installation part.
Basically no big deal because you only have to deal with that once or twice (twice if putting new paste on 5 years down the line)

The sink is firmly pressed down on it.
If you put the paste and the sink on correctly, then no dust can get to it.
If you mean dust on the sides, you shouldn't have paste there anyways - that can be blasted away with compressed air.
>>
>>51940775
>that can be blasted away with compressed air.
I mean the dust on the sides; not paste that is accidentally put there.

I'm not that filthy.
I simply meant that when I do a thorough case clean up I also take the chance to change the tim. Something i've read long ago and took at face value as being good practice. Don't read much into it.
>>

I also had one can of compressed air. It sat on my shelf for 2 years and I decided to freeze some ants cause I was afraid it was going to explode. Never used it on any electronics. Just ants. Poor ants.

And what am I missing about the hyper 212? I have one and its fins are not sharp, it keeps my cpu below 70*c at 4.4ghz 130watts and cost just $20
>>
>>51941219

You aren't missing anything. Those people are trolls, retards or both. It's very hard to cut oneself on any CPU heatsink. They're made to be handled, unlike an air conditioner's heatsink. Those will fuck you up.

I got a clc for 60 aud, single radiator, replaced the fan with 2 1000rpm fans in push/pull, and my i5 2500 peaks at 51 degrees in ibt.

What even? My i5 6500 doesn't even produce much heat actually, it would probably even be ok with passive cooling, might as well try it sometime, but right now it runs at room temperature when idle, highest it ever got is 72°C and that was after running BOINC for 2-3 hours (so it was at 100% for 2-3 hours). Now considering the fact that keeping it at 100% for 2 hours is impossible, I think it's bretty gud. It was at 58°C after 4 hours of just cause 3 btw. And my 970 was at 68°C.
