should i upgrade to XP?
this computer is mainly for classic games but i cant connect to wpa2-psk so i cant bring it anywhere. I'm considering upgrading to XP but do you guys think it would cause any performance issues?
(im also stuck on firefox 10 for windows 2k)

I daily drove 2K for quite a while, I still would be if I hadn't switched out the workstation for a newer system running XP.
Still ran fine for my use case, I don't give a fuck about media consumption and I hate the XP interface for the most part. 2K was the apex of the Windows UI, really the only thing I find lacking is a decent search feature.

I plan on building a something from parts I have lying around. Since I'm going xp 32-bit I'm thinking I'll stick with a dual core pentium, I have a q6600 lying around but I know multicore cpus fuck with some older games.

not on bare metal anymore, sadly
kind of want a laptop I can run 95 on with like a 2GB hard drive or so
ideally 95 because 98 is actually kind of bloated (I dunno what the fuck 98 does differently with drawing its controls, but it's a shit-ton slower at it than 95, same with 2000 vs NT4)
Also, getting shit to run on 2k is surprisingly difficult these days. Way into 7's lifespan, 2k support was still definitely a thing if I remember right. XP support is fading pretty quickly now
I kind of wish someone had told me that MP1 and MP2 were literally made to be played back fine on early-mid 90s machines way back when, instead me of trying to find a good, fast MP3 player for '95 or using hilariously awful 8-bit 22050hz compressed WAV files with some miserable MSN encoding or whatever (because space was at a premium).
might have been my fault, I do remember people sharing MP2 files on Napster and shit (one of those, I can't remember), but by that point I had a much faster machine running Windows ME (was so glad when I installed XP on it, ME was awful and locked up all the time)
Is this purely for nostalgia/learning purposes or is there some kind of benefit you get from using outdated OS's?

If you wanna keep your old OS and go WPA2, consider ethernet plugged into a cheap mini router on DD-WRT acting as a client. WR703N is a good option, only needs 5v, might even fit inside an unused drive bay or something.
