Here's a starting point.
Measure your wrist circumference and/or side to side with a caliper.
Don't get a watch that is too large, don't get a watch that is too fragile to wear, don't get a single watch and think you can use it for sports / physical labour as well as with a suit.
I'd recommend getting something way cheaper to start off with.
Get something with a display back, not open heart / skeleton. If you REALLY must have a skeletonized watch, get a chinkshit for a bit over $10.

Komandirskie is a hand-wind 17 jewel watch with 50m water resistance. It's not big, but it's very nicely made and resilient, goes for $30. Amphibia is a 200m auto-winding dive watch, goes for about $60.
Vostok watches are a great value for the price, and everything that goes into the watch is made in-house by Vostok or Vostok-owned factories in the same city. If they were made anywhere else, they'd probably sell for hundreds of dollars.

Not bad for the money by any means. It's fairly accurate (about 15 seconds fast/day). It looks pretty decent once you replace the shit bracelet it comes with, but it doesn't feel like it was made out of great materials. the screw down crown is a bit of a pain until you get used to it. All in all, it's a solid watch, and a deal that's really hard to pass up. I usually wear mine at work, and even getting banged on things it doesn't show any wear and hasn't stopped working after a few months.

So I took another look up close at an Omega Aqua Terra today while the staff drooled over ,my 176.0012, and the only thing I couldn't tell for sure was whether the end links are solid or hollow. Based purely on visual inspection with the bracelet on the watch, they appear hollow, but I wanted to double check with the at least one AT owner in /wt/.

I got a Pepsi one and the bezel is pretty disappointing. The case is nice. And the bracelet needs to be thrown away on arrival. Also, it didn't fit on my 8inch wrist without squeezing me like a boa constrictor.
