Why not just buy a new laptop that comes with warranty, is more portable, has better performing parts, doesn't require upgrading for a while.

If you don't upgrade it, it doesn't matter. I used spare RAM from another laptop, battery was fine so I didn't replace that and I'm too much of a poorfag to buy an SSD. It runs great without one so why bother.

4gb of ram is enough for Debian and some vm usage for me. Screen could be improved but is fine. Battery is perfect. SSD i'll maybe buy later but I don't really need it.

Sure the thinkpad has an ssd, but this laptop has more storage, the cpu and gpu are both faster and more efficient.
Is it really worth it to save 60 dollars for a used laptop?

I expected that I'd probably have to at least clean the heatsinks and maybe replace thermal paste, but no. With how clean my T520 was when I got it, it may as well have just gotten off the assembly line.
