Looks like 2003 all over again only metro style.

>>

But anon, it's based on arch
>>
>>51924004
I can dig it.
>>
So do they have some way of automatically skinning third-party programs, or is this another ElementaryOS where it looks fine with the preinstalled programs but looks like shit with anything else you install?
>>
>>51924004
>gave up on watching this project several months ago
>they have since made 4% of progress towards releasing the first alpha build
>>
What's the point of basing your distribution on a company specific design concept that's likely to go out of style in 3 years?
>>
>>51924004
Looks cute and I'll totally try it out on an old laptop for a bit when the alpha comes out. But, it seems like it's gonna take a while to get to that point, and unlike something like Debian or Arch I can't imagine using it as a daily usage OS.
>>
>>51924105

Came here to say this. Main problem with Linux is it's fragmentation while it's also one of the things that makes it great. Just doesn't have the right balance.
>>
Whats the point of another easy to use distro?
You'll eventually need to run stuff on a terminal and most people will drop it immediately when that happens.
>>
>>51924316
Windows is worse desu
>>
This looks like shit.

It's like chrome os raped windows 10
>>
>>51924632

>Windows
>worse fragmentation than GNU/Linux

Almost every single thing in Windows is standardized.
>>
>>51924004
does it run fallout 4, office or photoshop? of course not, this is the same stale shit that you can get on any other distro.

give up already loonix fags, retards who want a beautiful facebook OS already moved to OSX and lincucks will never replace Windows on the desktop.
>>
Linux with material design. Looks great, will try out.
>>
>>51924669
Agreed that it looks like shit, but all flat design looks like shit.

>>
>>51924688
>does it run fallout 4, office or photoshop?

Has literally nothing to do with Linux, but unless you're a complete newfag, you knew that already.

The ONLY reason fallout 4, ms office and photoshop don't have native linux versions is that the companies who developed them don't want to release native linux versions. End of story.
>>
>>51924004
can it be riced?
>>
>>51924728
and that's exactly why linux will never make it as a desktop OS, no one wants to release their proprietary software on NEET OS
>>
>>51924728
It's a catch 22. They don't release a Linux version because it's not worth spending time and money developing a product only 2% of the market can purchase. Then no one uses Linux because it doesn't have popular meme software and gaymes. Then that software isn't ported because no one uses Linux. etc
>>
Do none of you ignorant faggot read that it also support non-free and proprietary software?
>>
>>51925460
>he thinks proprietary software = windows software
>>
>>51925460
The entire project is free and open source. The fact that it doesn't prevent itself from working with nonfree software makes it more free, not less.

Its just chromeOS rebuilt over arch

just, why? i dont get it, you want arch minus the functionality and customization?

ChromeOS and Chromebooks already made 2015 the Year of Linux, since it got linux into the hands of millions of normies as it was stock on cheap useful laptops.

>>

Hey, I'm thinking of getting a chromebook, can you tell me how you get the terminal open like that with that shit. Sorry if I sound fucking autistic as shit but I wanna be prepared for a lot of things before I get one.
>>
>>51926265
i think its just ctrl alt T or something to open the crosh terminal, to get it in a window its requires the extensions Secure Shell and Crosh Window to be installed.

screenfetch has to be manually installed, i did this: http://tuxtweaks.com/2013/12/install-screenfetch-linux/

minus the part with scrot, since i dont need the screenshot utility

One last thing though. Do you have any other helpful tips, extensions, etc. I already know some things about the chromebook including some crosh stuff and gestures. Anymore help would be nice if you have anything else to share.

hoo boy.

Shows a loading icon on a blue screen and goes back to the (now unusable) terminal.
>mfw pre-alpha didn't work
>>
>>51926313
Yup. Ctrl+Alt+T takes you to the crosh, then after installing secure shell, you just type shell into the crosh, and the terminal is now fully functional. But I believe you have to be in developer mode.

The problem was never a cute, modern UI, the problem is a lack of support which is something Linux distros will never have in the near future.

I'll gladly sacrifice those programs for the superior system architecture and customizability, performance and functions that come with it.
>>
>>51926856
A superior system architecture doesn't get you a job in graphics design or 3DCG or audio production or VFX.

Which means that a superior system architecture is only good for tweaking your video player to render porn anime better.
And even then it loses to MPC-HC and madVR.

Anime-OS isn't even good at playing anime, how ironic.
>>
>>51924004
was just looking at this before i opened /g/
i love it actually, cant wait
>>
>>51924004
another useless linux distro, don't you freetards have anything better to do then create useless distros and repackage GNU shit ?
>>
>>51926887
>tfw Pixar and other big movie development studios mainly use linux for their productions.
>>
>>51924004
linux will never be mainstream because it is what you put into it

and what gets put into it is cucks ricing it for google, and neets ricing it for anime, and wizards writing esoteric, poorly documented command line utilities to do crazy ass dark magic shit

none of those is conducive to a windows-killer
>>
This could be amazing. I hope nvidia releases Wayland compatible drivers soon.
>>
>>51926887
Or programming or system administration or building clusters or using super computers or creating embedded systems or making satellites or automating any office job.
Linux as an OS is a lot better, but the average graphics designer will need simplicity and hand holding, I was talking about technology relates jobs.

That's their business. If they develop and use it in-house only, then it doesn't matter how it's licensed, does it?

Windows 7 can shit on this and any other Linux distro.

Good luck.
>>

because it is the worst DE among all others. bloated, unstable and full of annoying bugs. takes close to 3 minutes for it to boot and show me the taskbar. have to manually change the language by editing files.

all this for a shitty Windows 7 ripoff.

Qt, Java Swing and GTK applications exist on any platform.

Execute one of those applications on Windows and it will not look native. The solution on windows, just like on Linux or OSX is to not use applications that don't follow the system guidelines, if you really care that much.
