Hey guys, what's wrong with OS X? I've been using it at work for a while and it seems superior to windows and it never slows down. It's reliable and even though this is a late 2013 model, it hasn't shown any signs of wear, while my 2012 windows laptop slows down all the time. So /g/, what exactly is wrong with this OS?

Nothing is wrong with OSX, it's a mighty fine OS.
Nothing wrong with it. It's a nice, clean OS, but the hardware is underwhelming. It's compensated for with great optimization for the specific hardware, but the Macbooks aren't that impressive in terms of specs. The 15 inch is pretty good, but still really expensive compared to Windows.
Dunno about the desktops, but I mean, >mobile GPU
Of course I would only ever buy a desktop Mac if I bought the Mac Pro and needed it for work stuff. Don't see a reason to own one otherwise.

I don't know, never tried, but there aren't any drivers for lots of components, so I imagine it wouldn't end well and performance would be shit.

Don't want to appear as an apple fanboy but I'm using this mid-2011 imac at work since 2 years ago, I'm a developer so I install/uninstall tons of stuff using brew and whatnot, never reformatted it, upgraded all the way from mavericks, still works like a charm, actually every OS update made it faster.
Maybe cause it had its ram upgraded to 12GB.

It's pretty good software-vise and simple in use but it's overpriced as hell. That's the main problem.
Also you can make windows and linux to be faster, nicer, more customizable and more functional than OSX, it just takes time and knowledge. If you are too retarded to understand how to make your computer works properly, but have lot's of money then Apple is your way to go.
Been using OSX since 2008. Over a long time of use i've realised how much i've missed out put never had the money to get a windows PC because of the high cost. The way I think of it is:
Apple: Beautiful Prison
Windows: Ugly Freedom
It's nice but you can't do shit and windows is ugly but you can do a lot. And then of course there is Linux, the superior kid which no ones give a shit about unless you actually program.

i have a 2009 iMac running El Capitan. Shit is still pretty fast
I do web dev work, c++ graphics programming (Xcode), iOS development, netflix HD, virtual box, and of course lots of console stuff

in the end OS X is toolbox. Some tools are simply not available in that toolbox
The AppleScript bridge is pretty terrible with large volumes of data so scripting is useless with large datasets which are locked into certain apps.
Having said that the *desktop* scripting stuff in OS X is still miles ahead of anything else.

As far as games go, most of the games I like are playable in wine without issue.
As far as work goes, it's got a terminal and SSH, so I can't complain.
It was also free (2012 MBP). I can easily swap out the battery on it, HDD, and upgrade the RAM; don't think it's necessary to upgrade for what I do.
I still find myself going back to my ThinkPad with Debian.

When I learned Hypercard in about 2 days as a 10 year old, I never suspected I'd be using basically the same language to automate my shit for the next 27 years.
Apple's a whole notch above everybody else in so many ways it's not even funny. Let's not even go into color matching or font rendering or other typical stuff that Macs have always been best at - the OS is just much more sensible and useful.
