What were your PC specs in 2006?
What was your dream PC upgrade that you just couldn't afford?
What was the game that you just couldn't run?
Did you make the jump to Vista or stick with XP?
>>
penium 4
2gb ddr ram
onboard gpu
winxp

crysis

>>51911146
AMD64 3200+

Early 2006 (going on since 2004)
AthlonXP 2800+
A-Bit NF7-S
1GB DDR-400(2x512MB)
Radeon 9600XT

>Later 2006
Core 2 Duo E6600 (shitty E1 stepping, I preordered a CPU)
DFI Infinity 975X/G
2GB DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 (2x1GB)
Radeon X1900GT

>>51911162
Crysis is 2007 anon.
>>
X2 5200+, 2GB, 320MB 8800 GTS
I guess the 8800 GTX
NWN2, the poorly optimized piece of shit. It got better with patches, though.
Jumped to Vista, stuck with it until SP1, still couldn't take how slow it was, and moved back to XP until this year.
I was also still on that X2 5200+ until last year.
>>
AMD Athlon XP 2600+, Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra 256 MB, 1 GB RAM if I recall correctly (PC I got from a friend).

Eventually got replaced with a Core2Duo rig in 2009. I skipped Vista and got on the Windows 7 dev build hype train.

Forgot to answer the questions:

>What was your dream PC upgrade that you just couldn't afford?
Q6600
4GB DDR2-1333
2x Radeon X1950XT in Crossfire
2x 74GB 15K SAS HDDs in raid0 for system drive

>What was the game that you just couldn't run?
Nothing.
Even Crysis was fine with my Core2.

>Did you make the jump to Vista or stick with XP?
I kept using Win2K until Win7 came out.

In 2006 I didn't have a PC as I was traveling.
2007, however:

CPU: Intel Quad core 2 QX6800
GPU: GeForce 8800
Memory: 8GB
MOBO/case/psu/hdd: taken from a prebuilt

I tried vista for like 2 weeks, I got a ton of BSODs, so promptly switched back to XP until 7 came along.

Except for GPU swaps, she served for 5 whole years.

And yes, it could run Crysis. Though spent most of its days shitposting on forums.

PowerMac G4 Digital Audio, with a single 733MHz G4, 768 MB of RAM and an AGP GeForce something.

Something with the new core 2s and a great GPU from nV
>Game that you couldn't run
I couldn't run anything, except BF1942
>Jump to Vista or stayed on XP
Jumped to Tiger from OS 9, but can't exactly remember when.
>>
Q6600
Asus P5KPL-AM SE
2GB DDR2 800 (single stick)
550W PSU
160GB HDD

And get this:

Geforce 7300, nigga

I didn't know shit about tech then so I just asked my dad to buy me a PC I can use for uni, so he got one of those prebuilt 'gaming' bullshit builds. The processor was nice but graphics were shit

Also, I was hyped for fucking NFS Pro Street, and wanted nothing more than to run that game. This rig failed

I made the jump to Vista, regretted it

Soon as 7 came out I made the switch. Next upgrade for said rig was another stick of 2GB DDR2 800 and a GTX 260

Shitty prebuilt, I didn't know what I was doing with computers at the time
Pentium 4 3.2ghz
Geforce 5200
512mb or 1gb of ram
Westinghouse 1280x1024 monitor
Windows Server 2003

>What was the game that you just couldn't run?
Supreme Commander, I ended up playing that on my brother's AthlonXP/Geforce 7300
>>
Damn Logan has gotten fat since then.

c2d t7300

2gb ram

80gb hdd?

thinkpad r61i that i just use without the battery on the 90w AC adapter with separate shitty keyboard/mouse that i've also had for years. i think it cost me $53 total.

2006 hm, celeron 366mghz geforce mx440(or was it called geforce 4? can't remember) 512 mb ram.
I wanted to run oblivion with at least 30 fps, but couldn't.

Then same year i think or smewhere in 7-9 months i changed to midrange athlon 64 i can't remember and radeon xt800 and 2gb of ram, and whooping 500gb hdd and then i jumped to vista, was pretty happy with it actually.
5 more years before best hardware purchase in my life - i7 2600.

I had one of these fuckers with an E6300, 4GB of ram and some low profile piece of shit ATI card. I bought it at that awkward intersection between wanting a good PC and knowing that building your own is a no brainer.

Pic related, all I remember about its specs is AMD Athlon 64 and 1 gig of RAM, gpu was Nvidia but I don't know which model
>>
AMD Athlon 3500+
Gigabyte K8 motherboard
ATi Radein X800 GTO ( palit or powercolor )
1GB RAM

Kept Xp for a very long time

I was annoyed that I couldn't get both AA and HDR in Oblivion, but used mods to simulate HDR

I really wanted to buy an X1900 or X1950XTX or whatever but I wasn't making any money back then

Upgraded to play Fallout 3, Far cry 2 and another I can't recall

I was using a toaster in '06, I don't remember the specs.

expanding to 4gb

it had a geforce 7300gs that was such a piece of shit, but played so many games on it, later upgraded it to a geforce 210 in 2011 shortly before getting a new pc.

played hl2, doom to crysis.

if it werent because the mobo was almost ded, i would have kept the computer.

I stayed with vista untill a year ago because i built a new pc

My dream hardware in that day was a 9800gtx
>>
Opteron 144 OC'd to 2.9 GHz
2 GB RAM
DFI nF3 ultra-D
Radeon X1950Pro (My parents gave me the AGP version as a gift, so I had to switch to an nF3 board because selling the card wasn't an option)

I'm pretty sure it could play any game I wanted, but I remember DIRT running like shit when it came out because my single core CPU couldn't handle it properly.

I remember browsing parts stores and just dreaming about all the high end parts when I had my first computer. This year I built a rig out of all those ridiculously expensive parts - DFI nF4 SLI-DR Expert board, AMD FX-60, 600MHz RAM (dem TCCD chips), 7800GTX SLI and three 74 GB raptors in RAID0, all in a riced out case. Cost less than €100 to hunt down all the shit I needed. I also have a DFI crossfire board (literally brand new) if I ever find a crossfire master card for cheap.

MSI something motherboard
Sempron 2800
Some off brand weak ass PSU
1gb of ram

I had no dream pc upgrade, for me having a computer of my own for the first time was amazing. It couldn't do high end gaming but I was content with just browsing the internet and playing simple games like RCT and RA2.

I can't remember trying to run a game my computer couldn't handle. I think I might've had WoW running for a bit but could be I had an upgraded computer by then.

I did use XP initially, but it was a pirated version and after reinstallation I couldn't work how to crack it so I got frustrated and got windows vista home basic N. The shittiest and cheapest Vista I could fine, had none of the special options. But it did bypass the activation problem and I used it happily until I upgraded. I think at some point I got a legit XP cd key for it so I reverted back to XP. I used that XP for years to follow.

2006 I was 14. Parents bought me a Gateway desktop. Pentium 4 [housefire edition] with HT. No dedicated gpu. 3gb DDR. Could run WoW at 15fps on lowest possible settings in a non populated area at 800x600.

Was saving for pic related. Snow shoveling. Leaf raking, birthday money etc. I was only 14 in 2006.

Eventually I ended up getting myself a kind of gaming laptop because little sister kept fucking up the desktop with viruses and the P4 was trash for gaming overall.

Laptop was also a gateway. Amd athlon x2 with radeon hd4250 graphics. Ran WoW at 45fps on medium at 1366x768. Did everything I wanted.

>also got gud at computering because of all the times I needed to fix it because porn viruses.

Good times.

2x1gb ddr2 533, overclocked to 600mhz
80gb hitachi 7200rpm hard drive
nvidia 7800gtx 256mb

creative sb audigy

I remember wanting the pentium 965 extreme edition (dual pentium 4 @3.6ghz), and a 7900gtx or 7800gtx 512. Also remember playing BF2 on it. The elder scrolls 4 oblivion didn't run well at max settings.

I definitely jumped to vista. My computer was good enough that it didn't feel very slow.I think that was a big problem back then, people with garbage specs trying to run windows vista.
>>
>>51911146
Some cheap $25 ECS mobo from newegg
Athlon x2 4000+ @3Ghz
1GB DDR2-800
7800GT

Dream upgrade has always been a top of the line CPU and GPU. I cant justify $400+ each though. I always keep my budget for CPU and GPU under $200 each.

I don't remember any games I outright couldn't run after 2006. I think Doom 3 was the first game I couldn't run but that was mostly because I had a Radeon 9250 at the time (PIII/512MB RAM), it gave me like 8-10fps and was basically unplayable.

I switched to Vista after SP1 and I don't regret it.
>>
>>51911146
AMD Athlon XP 3800+
768MB RAM
Generic nForce board
Integrated nVidia 6150SE that barely ran CSS
80GB Sata drive
Windows Vista

I just wanted a fucking GPU since the last two machines also had integrated, and not an obscure ass amount of ram.

Half-Life 2 for some reason took 5 mins+ for level loads.

I went from a 478 P4 with XP to Vista in 2006, and I hands down never had problems with it. The only bug I encountered was the shutdown bug that would hang on 'shutting down' but would never turn off.

Some crummy old Dell , hang on I still have it picking up dust I'll grab the model number.

>Model No. PP01L

Came with windows XP, I could barely play maplestory on the fucker.
So many games I couldn't run like C&C Generals, and empire earth.

upgraded to an XPS M1530 2 years later then another 5 years or so built my first dektop. I spent almost my entire childhood on that C610, only game I remember it running well was red alert 2. HL2 barely worked as well at cinematic framerates no doubt, but it was able to handle half life 1.

Gonna try booting her up.
>>
1.8 GHz Athlon XP CPU
Sapphire Radeon 9800SE
4 GB RAM
XP (switched to Win7 in my 2009 build)

>What was the game that you just couldn't run?
SimCity 4, which is ironic since I had built that PC in 2003 because I wanted to play SimCity 4. I didn't end up really getting into the game until 2010, despite owning it since release.
>>
>>51911146

In 2006 I purchased the Original Mac Pro. Which is by all rights still a pretty impressive machine. I use it all the time to run video on Gigs. I can play multiple HD streams simultaneously without a hiccup. Only thing that's really been upgraded from the original spec is that I use a SSD boot drive.
