Animals weren't made to be locked in a house. We humans can handle it to some extent because we can have pretend experiences with TV, games, and books. They don't have that so it's a life of utter monotony.

One of my nephews is slowly turning into a person living like those pictured here. It saddens me greatly, because he was full of so much potential, gifted with great physical strength and looks, and a very, very intelligent and talented brain.
He could have been anything, he could have gotten every girl, he could have been a hot shot at everything.
Now when I meet him from time to time, I see him slowly wither away. His life energy so to speak slowly leaving his body, and his brain ever so slowly rotting and becoming very slowly but surely, a bit mad.

OK, I was not going to feed the troll, but I just made some tea, and I have some music on, so I feel ready.
I do not think ThinkPads are the "one and only" laptop. I purchase and re-sell a good 10-15 Dell machines a month. My mom has a newer insperon that seems to be treating her alright (except some wireless card issues) and I used to pack an XPS 13 Developer Edition to trade shows. But, Dells are in no way superior. The cooling is a mess, especially with the Latitude series. It pulls from directly under the laptop where your leg would go if you where to put it there. That makes it near impossible to use it on any surface that is not a flat, cool table. Also, time and time again I experience issues with Dell and GNU/Linux drivers. i8k does not work on a good 40% of systems I see, and sleepstates almost never work out of the box.
ThinkPads are nowhere near perfect, but they are much better than any alternative that I have experienced in 20 years of Sysadmin work, and 5 years of owning my own repair shop. They are able to cool themselves reliably, replacement parts are easy to find, and they are fairly rigid compared to the competition.

A load of newer thinkpads also support coreboot, along with a few Elitebooks and a handful of Dell machines. AMT is preloaded on just about any laptop worth its shit these days, so I am not sure what alternative you have there. Computrace is also loaded on Dells, FYI. Also, I do not know if you have ever used Libreboot, but once you have it installed, it works just as well as I would expect it to work. Of course it does not have all the features of the original BIOS, but it is in no way broken.
