Hey /g/, I want to move away from Windows for good. Which GNU plus Linux distro should I get? Preferably one that's easy to use and has a windows-like UI for a smoother transition.

Literally any of them. Any *buntu, Mint, Debian, Arch if you feel brave, just pick one and stick one anon. They're all nice in their own ways.

Try using WINE/POL but expect random patches to break it.

About LoL, I played it a bit and, although it wasn't perfect, it worked like a charm.
Go for it :)

>caufield
Does it have anything to do with Catcher in the Rye?
>>
>>51907976
yes theres also a poster in her room referencing catcher in the rye. Max and Caufiled share some traits but they are too different, but its a nice little nod to an amazing book.

Mint has dethroned Ubuntu as the stock beginners' distro.
>>
>>51906282
Literally any of them.

Any differences you're going to notice at first are what DE has been preinstalled, if any.>>51906282

Nowadays I suggest beginners try some version of LinuxBBQ (I'd go for Bork if I were you) but if you feel you'd be bothered by such a "minimal" system (It does come with GUIs and menus and stuff) just go for Mint.

No one like fedora

Save yourself the hassle and get Mint.

Mint is nice and stable and easy to use. It comes built in with all the tools you should need for your day to day work flow.

Mint can do anything any other distro can do, so there is no reason to change distros in the future if you want a new window manager or some other weird reason for wanting another distro.

Mint future road map is solid so you don't need to worry about support in the future.

Mint community and the debian / ubuntu community is large and helpful so you will always have people that can help you out if you're in a bind.

Mint is what you want. I started off with Ubuntu and I can say you really want to start with Mint.
>>
>>51908517
DESU Why all this "beginners distro" FUD. Mint is a full fledged powerful Linux distro.
>>
>>51909792
not really
it's more like a one-man-show-bullshit distro
based on ubuntu based on debian

I would say Loonix Mint, like everybody
>>
>>51906413
people have been playing skyrim on wine for ages anon
the more popular a game is the more likely you have someone already figured out how to play it on linux
>>
>>51909750
naw mint is shit for many reasons
go for ubuntu unless you absolutely hate jewish people
>>
>>51906282
linux mint or ubuntu or ubuntu gnome
>>
>>51906282
Zorin is a good option for you. That's literally what it's desgined for.
>>
Mint with cinnamon is probably something you would be happiest with. It's popular, easy to install it and it is good looking and easy to navigate for someone used to Windows. My tip is dual boot so you have windows for the time where you need to game or use Windows software
>>
>>51911754
Should I install mint or windows 7 first for dual boot?
>>
>>51911771
Windows 7 first, because windows don't have a dual boot option in their install so it would need tons of technical knowledge. While many Linux installs like mint have it as a option. I recommend googling "dual boot mint" to see more information. But it is simple on the mint installer it's literally ticking a box or something (haven't done it in ages, it might be a button)
>>
>>51911816
Post a screenshot post-install.
>>
>>51911816
this is not entirely correct
windows is very well capable of detecting other operation systems to set up dual boot but it fails at detecting linux and any of the filesystem formats it uses
