They only did this because Apple surprised everyone on the iPhone 5s? I think it was with the first 64 bit mobile CPU. No one was expecting it.
I'm not sure why they did this anyways, it's not like we're benefiting from Qualcomm's rush here. The 808 and 810 fucking suck in a lot of ways. Perhaps we get some better benchmarks in some ways, but in many ways this processors suck battery, overheat, and need to be throttled just to work for long periods of time.
Does this mean Android is finished? lol no, 2016 will be another rough year for Android benchmarks outside of Exynos because the Snapdragon 820 and 830 still aren't going to fix the problems entirely.
Will they be better? Certainly so.
Will they out benchmark the A9? Possibly. They won't be as battery efficient I bet, however. Apple's iPhones only had shit battery in the past because of the thinness meme. I've never had that problem, and when I used to work for Moto while they were owned by Google, never really experienced updates slowing phones down - at least flagships.
Yeah, they need to get better about updates, but at least with Android you can still use apps even when you can't update. Many older iPhones are just fucked now. Obviously that shouldn't happen in the future, they're a lot better about keeping the downloads available for people on the App Store.

My S4 had KitKat on it when I got it, at least I'm pretty sure. It's been well over two years. But two major OS updates seem about right. I will say that I'm kind of pissed not to be getting M though, simply because this phone is more than capable of running it. I would have to say that it's only being neglected because they can profit off of it any more.

Nope. Especially with amoled, its better to just take the tiny bit to battery life for a way better display. My phone from 2012 has a 720p screen. It cost me $500 back then. In no way should a phone cost $800 (16gb, I got 32gb on my phone, again from 2012) have almost the same amount of pixels. At least move up to 1080p dman it! I can make out pixels on my phone e, it has a higher ppi than the iPhones (342 vs 326). That's pathetic.

There's your answer. It's not so much that Apples chips are some mastery work of engineering, they're just the only company not completely shitting themselves when it comes to making a competent SoC.
Snapdragon has a monopoly on Android OEM's so they slacked off cause lol who else will anyone use, Samsung chips have always been pretty crap and are only better this time because the 810 sucks so much dick, TI left the business, mediatek struggles to make anything faster than a toaster, Nvidia chips are ovens that can only be in huge tablets, Intel is still far behind and can't even get anyone to use them, and anything else is some no name Chinese company worse than all of the above.

Keep in mind this only ever happens while gaming. Any other activity like videos or general UI stuff won't lag. And even then the 6P is one of the best performing android phones.
