typing this on one of two ALPS Glidepoint MGL Series Rev. 1.0 keyboards I found in the trash the other day.

I've personally identified the caps as ALPS white, but deskthority says these should be clicky, yet the keyboard seems even less clicky than my old cherry mx brown keyboard. caps also seem kinda mushy. Still better than dome, but I'm not impressed overall.

I don't really want to hold on to these, so I need to find out what they're selling for, but the only reference to one I could find online was this ebay ad:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ALPS-Glidpoint-KeyBoard-PC-MGL-Series-Rev-1-0-Complete-in-Box-Never-USED-NEW-/181949878818?hash=item2a5d0ed222:g:wWoAAOSwA4dWFf3Q

I'm pretty sure because mine are old and yellowed and need cleaning that they aren't worth near that much. What does /g/ say they are worth?

Many colourways and font styles are influenced by vintage keyboards - the RGB mods; the large, centred legends; and the spherical caps are all examples. Then you have the Christmas-themed colourway (have you ever known Christmas decorations to not be at least a little cheesy?) and a keyboard that was posted to be made fun of. I won't make any excuses for 1979 though.

Pretty sure the only one I'm not covering is Hyperfuse, which I don't understand your issue with. Is it the artisan? That's a different issue.

All over the place. Group buys are common on Massdrop or Geekhack. You can probably get a set of Vortex PBT on a couple storefronts like Amazon, or check out what SP has in stock on pimpmykeyboard. I offer no guarantees about shipping costs to the down under.

Keyboards I have/had:

Keycool 84 - Black switches
CM Storm Quickfire TK (full size) - Blue switches
Ducky Shine - Brown switches
KBTalking - Green switches
(sold) Blackwidow - Blue switches

I enjoy the green switch one the most, and brown if I need to be quiet and sometimes for gaming.

What should my next switch/keyboard be? Full size preferable or at least with arrow keys and f keys.

I think I'll go red next and see if that's more comfortable for gaming.

Falbatech has the most recent.

There is no ergodox with LED support though. One was planned, but it evolved into infinity ergodox instead.

Infinity Ergodox is only available through group buys and there are none currently up.

I mean if you're comparing the price of mail that takes 30 days vs 4 you probably think stamps cost too much; subsequently you're also retarded.

A stamp for a letter could cost $10 and it going from Florida to Alaska would still make it worth it.

I have the black version of the Sun Unix keyboard:

http://www.pckeyboard.com/page/product/40PSA

Honestly, the click and tactility are good but the keycaps feel wobbly and the case is low-quality plastic with a lot of flex. I still like my purchase though since it was my first mechanical keyboard, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Yea I have heard talk about that, but have never actually seen a finished one or even a prototype. Was supposed to be released late 2013, but nothing.

The latest revision is the Infinity board, which does have LED light mounts (though I don't think it supports RGB).

>There are Cherry MX switches with built in LEDs, right?

No, not really. They look like they are built into the switch, but they actually go THROUGH the switch and mount to the PCB under it. The ergodox PCBs do not support LEDs (except infinity).

What I always thought would be cool (although it would probably be gay in reality) is to walk into a job as a consultant carrying an instrument case of some kind, then when it was time to sit at a client's console, snap open the case, pull out a keyboard and mouse and wearing latex gloves detach the client's devices and attach my own. Then snap off the gloves and toss them in the trash. I mean, we've all reat the articles. Office keyboards are filthy and disgusting. It's hardly an insult. Everyone should use their own keyboard, just like everyone should use his own coffee cup or fork.
>>
>>51908887
You'd instantly become a legend wherever you went. Maybe keep informative pamphlets in your keyboard case about how dirty office keyboards are and hand them to the client if they gave you a strange look. Then go about your business like nothing was ever out of the ordinary.

Can someone recommend me a mechanical keyboard that, if this is even possible, has no metallic reverb after hitting/letting go of the keys. I tried some boards and they all had a metallic reverb (is that the filco ping thing?).

Are TKL boards less effected by this due to their size? I only tried "full" sized keyboards so far.

Next problem is that it needs to be available for shipping to Germany.

I think it's a combination of shitty keycaps and the fact that topre keys "push" my finger up on the upstroke so the finger tends to not leave the key until it's all back up (unless I raise them)

What, the return force is too much? I can't say that's been an issue for me, but whatever. They are very snappy.

I tend to slide my fingers across the keyboard when typing fast with minimum rasing, and mx blues allowed me to do so, so far.

and yes, topre seems to have more force going up than cherry mx blues. It's a new sensation for me, I still don't know if I like it or not.

Years ago, I bought some IBM Model M keyboards at a Honeywell internal sale (you had to be an employee or friend of an employee, it was all their used junk, my roommie was in their IT).

Great keyboards, but grooossss. Super filthy. I took the keycaps off, put them in a baggie, hand washed that in the sink with soap and hot water. The keyboards I put into the dishwasher with no detergent.

Let them air dry (this was Arizona, elsewhere you'd probably want to put a fan on them and put them near a heater outlet or something) for a couple of days, then plugged them in and tested them. No problems.

I've never put any of my Cherry keyboards through the wash, but I have cleaned them several times (Kinesis Classic/Advantage/Contour?). I removed the caps, separated the halves, detached the PCBs and removed them from the backing. I've used electrical contact cleaner, shot into each keyswitch while pressing it several times (then pressing it several more times after spraying to get more out).

This definitely cleans them, but it often shorts them out for days. Even when I followed up with compressed air while repeatedly pressing them, I'd sometimes get intermittent shorted-out behavior.

I don't think it ever damaged anything, but it took awhile for the solvents to fully evaporate out.

Oh, if you have hard water, then you probably never want to run it over your keyboard. Or if you do, follow up with distilled water. You should also be fine using distilled water and avoiding tap altogether, regardless of whether your water is hard.

Get the HobbyKing one (936). It's a rip-off of an older Hakko design. I bought one last year. It's like $15 and took a good month to get here, but holy shit, it's by far the nicest soldering iron (actually "soldering station") I've ever used. Soooo much better than the cheapo single-wattage pen types, and of course the gun types aren't suitable for anything but large work, like soldering automotive wiring (which you should pretty much never do anyway).

Why is it that hardly anyone here uses Kinesis keyboards? I've been using them for probably 15 years now. There are two things I dislike:

1) Shitty rubber, rubber dome F-keys. Half the time I have to jam them hard to get them to work (probably due to my own "cleaning" efforts), and about a third of the time they double-tap or more.

2) No Windows key. There's an extra \| key under the left ring finger. I think it's normally an Insert key (maybe only if you toggle the alternative layer), but I remap that to Left-Win. Works okay, but there's a reason I never use Win-key shortcuts very often.

I heard #1 is being taken care of by a new version with proper mechanical F-keys, but I don't see any sign of it on their website.
