would a 27 inch 1440p monitor be enough to really "wow" me? I'm running a shitty ass 20 inch 1600 x 900 monitor at the moment and I need to upgrade immediately
>>
no, but it might "wew" you

27 inch is an epic size for gamers especially
>>
Do it. I don't know what it is that would wow you personally, but I know that I would not be willing to use the size and resolution you currently are using. Hell I'm even becoming unsatisfied with 1080p
>>
>>51896287
>>51896310

thanks kittens :3
>>
It's pretty fucking sweet. It's a great screen size, and it's pretty damn crisp, and clear. Good balance for performance too.
>>
I'm thinking about a 27" 1440p monitor myself, but $500 is way too much unless this is non-USD. I've been looking at monitors at about $350
>>
4k or bust.
>>
desu senpai just get a qnix.
>>
>>51896475

4k is dumb familia. text is way too small below 40" or so and it really won't look much better than 1440p clarity wise till again, 40" or so.
>>
Where could I get pic related

It is 120/144hz?
Does it have Freesync/Gsync?
>>
>>51896801
I have the U2717h
It's nice but there's crosshatching and the image burns in the screen really easily

I rend to keep browser windows open side by side and there's always a line in the centre of the screen
>>
>>51896824

scaling almost always looks like shit
>>

I honestly could NOT care less. Go play CSGo faggot

I have a 27" 1440p IPS from Eizo and that thing is awesome. The only downside is that my 280X can't keep a constant 60fps with modern games on high settings. Probably upgrading to Nvidya next year when they push new stuff out.
>>
>>51896992
U wut m8?
If you get your display for vidya gsync and freesync are godsends for every framerate from 10 to 144 because you never, ever will notice any tearing on the screen.
If its for content creation then yeah, is not useful
>>
>>51897003

I know I'm on 4chan so virtually every board has contrarians but Linux is niche as fuck and doesn't apply to 99% of PC users. it's not even arguable, there's no point to having Linux unless you have very specific uses for it
>>
>>51897034
>very specific uses for it

What? Like having a usable OS that respects you as much as you respect it?
>>
>>51897030

I use a 60hz screen w/ vsync and I really don't see any issue. If I had a 980ti maybe I'd want to upgrade for faster framerates but otherwise I don't see the point

is there something inherently wrong with vsync that I'm not seeing? it works fine for me at 60fps
>>
>>51897034
Yes, right tools for the right jobs.

If you program C# or play games, Windows is a good choice.

For everything else, there is Linux, and OS X to some extend.

W/Could a company ever make left and right handed monitors without a bezel on one side to facilitate better multi screen set ups?
>>

The lag. The unbearable, horrible lag.
>>
>>51897029
Wait, how'd you get one already?
I preordered one as well, but won't be getting it until January.
>>
>>51897059

>For everything else

slow your roll friend. what "everything else" are you referring to? because there's MS office for most desk work, and in terms of creative endeavor the adobe suite is just as reliable on Windows as it is Mac.

or maybe you're talking about web browsing, you know, sitting on 4chan and watching RedLetterMedia. in which case I definitely agree with you. the web surfing applications on Linux are clearly superior right familio?

anyway I honestly can't even see a case being made for OS X at this point. Mac used to be king in terms of art/video editing/etc but Windows is just as reliable at this point. basically with Mac you're getting Windows-level creative apps with NO GAMES and NO CUSTOMIZATION. what the fuck is the point, at least Linux is useful for niche applications
>>
anyone got the Dell S2716DG? it's 27 inch, 2560x1440, 144hz, G Sync, but a TN panel

and its cheaper than the rog swift
>>
wow why not just get a catleap monitor off ebay $200 for 1440p IPS

I don't trust ebay "businesses", just comes off as shady to me. no matter how many success stories I hear I will never buy something off an off-brand korean ebay vendor.
>>
>>51897113

eh, I guess I just don't care enough to make the upgrade. I really don't notice any input lag. maybe going back to 60hz from 144 I'd notice it but now it seems fine to me.
>>
how does shit scale on 1080p on wangblows?
im thinking of upgrading to 27" 4K when 60hz monitors come out
>>
>>51897323

I can't answer your question but honestly, 4k is overkill as fuck for 27". You wouldn't notice the difference between that and 1440p without pixel peeping
>>
>>51897323
don't buy 4k unless you have a graphics card powerful enough to handle it. 1080p on a 4k screen looks like ass.ass

>>51897356
sorry, i meant anything ABOVE 1080p

windows scaling is pretty bad at high resolutions, i would suggest going to a store and checking it out yourself. never buy monitors online

Doesn't matter if you ultimately don't pick one, you should still fucking learn and be more informed rather than writing it off immediately.

This is exactly the kind of stupid mindset that old men use to justify keeping all records for their company exclusively on paper because they're too ignorant to try to learn word and excel.

Nobody help this retard.
>>
I bought a cheap IIRC 21" 1080p Dell IPS (to use for vidya), and I was really impressed despite having a rMBP. IPS makes an enormous difference, even if it isn't hidpi.
>>
>>51897226
I'm not trying to force you into to anything but ebay's consumer protection is pretty rad. As long as you're not retarded and read the seller's post you should be fine. They can't say something is in mint condition and then send you garbage. It happened to me once and ebay's claim service credited my paypal account when the scammer wouldn't respond to the claim. Scammers know theyre fucked and didn't even bother having me send it back to them. For 1 person like me there's probably 5 other idiots who just think they got duped and that's the way it is, but there's actually a legit claims service that handles all these shitty dealings.
>>
>>51897539

I see your point but the upgrade is just too much money at this point. No, I won't be using a 60hz display in ten years, but I want 1440p now and I don't feel like spending an extra $400 for a feature I can currently live without
>>
>>51897553
It was this one: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-21-5-Inch-Virtually-Borderless-Widescreen/dp/B009MXKJ2A

$140!
>>
>>51896245
That's a huge ripoff do not buy this
>>
>>51897609
I picked up a dell 23" S2340M IPS panel for $100 as a 2nd/main monitor, it was an open box, perfect condition, only drawback is glossy finish but for that price buying it was a no brainer.

Though I would gladly trade it in for a Korean 27" panel
>>
>>51896472
>>51896801
korean 1440p 27" monitors have been priced at $300 or less for a few years now. You can get 1440p monitors even cheaper then.
>>
>>51896245

Yeah, it would be a pretty major upgrade.

You should be aware there will be an adjustment period before you can get comfy with your new monitor. You will have to learn how to set things up to your liking and you may fall for a few memes along the way.
>>
>>51900190
Those Korean monitors almost always have glossy screens. That's a no-go for me.
>>
>>51897192
the S2716DG amd acers XB270HU TN panel version are cheaper because they use TN panels. completely up to you but i'm sure most /g/ will tell you not to buy a TN monitor, especially in the 1440p+ range.
i personally will never buy a TN monitor again.

Are there any 1440p IPS 24" 120 hz monitors?
>>
Why doesn't anyone ever talk about the Acer 1440p 144hz monitor. They sell on eBay from them officially for 300. They look great and work well. The only shitty thing is they aren't vesa compatible so you have to use their Shitty stand.

I got two and I disagree. A third one placed beside the two already there would make them span just about my primary field of vision.
Then again, if I used three, I'd place them in portrait mode, and problem solved.
>>
>27" or more

What are my options, is a 4K tv my only option?
>>
>>51904282
16:10 is your problem. It's significantly more expensive to produce than 16:9. It has 11% more pixels, and costs about 20%, give or take, more to make per pixel, because of lower numbers, and higher difficulty.
>>
>>51904282
>res higher than 1920x1200
>has to be 16:10
>Max price like 700 bucks

I don't know how your local prizes look but over here its 1300€ for a 32" 2560x1600p IPS monitor.

So you are gonna have to skip one of those preferences.

Pixel count and monitor sizes have increased a lot though over the past few years so I don't really see a problem with going on over to a ~30" 4K monitor instead.
>>
>>51904388

When I first used my 27" 1440p monitor I was blown away by how much better it looked.

And now a week later I'm so used to it it feels the exact same as my 1080p 22". Although some games really benefit from the higher resolution.

Macs are fashion statements, owning a mac is like using 'thin' condoms. It might look like the condom won't affect the pleasure you get. But deep in your heart you just wish you didn't have to use it, but then again, you're too dumb to handle anything real (the risk of impregnation/the complexity of windows/linux compared to os x, windows 10 is actually pretty easy to use and I find it to be more intuitive than os x, but once you go mac you can't go back because you're used to dumbed down shit and anything else makes your brain hurt)
>>
>>51904857
Windows 10 is a metric pile of ass. There are so many flaws with windows fundamentally let alone user interface wise that the only solution is a ground up overhaul.
