who /tinfoil/ here?
why does the botnet release so, so many incredibly useful things as open source?
what's their end game?
and why do facebook's offerings pale in comparison?
They're using the good ol' bait-and-switch over at ZOG.

>why does the botnet release so, so many incredibly useful things as open source
basically to get you to use their services.
botnet is first, and foremost, an ad company. the more you use their services, the more likely you are to see their ads, so they make money. I honestly don't believe it's anything worse than that.
They want you to depend on them, use every service of them and definitely not one of their competitors.

Not to mention you can target ads.
>oh this guy spends a lot of time in his browser on gaming sites
>give him gaming ads
>oh this guy is about to drive past a McDonalds
>let's give him a McDonalds coupon
>oh this guy calls his doctor
>let's offer him a health insurance
>oh he speaks Finnish, I guess we'll have to translate that one
And soon we'll all get robots and self-driving cars who use the combined knowledge of all this technology to give you exactly what you want, before you know you want it.
like what?
i mean, i use chromium as a supplemental browser, but not sure what else i might use from the open source botnet

Not to mention image recognition software.

Android, WebM, Angular
A bit offtopic, but everyone keeps saying Chromium is a botnet (or am I mishearding?)
I doubt that this is true because Chromium is open-source just like Firefox, so exactly how can Google put in a package that can invade my privacy?

Check the Debian debacle that occurred earlier in the year.
Tech companies don't care about making money, their stock is their product. Amazon has never turned a profit and Bezos is super rich and the employees all get paid etc etc blah blah stock

Is this the issue?
https://www.debian.org/security/2015/dsa-3148
> checks chromium settings, searchs for ok, google
> not found
> yes.

hm, this is a good theory
But I was referring specifically to their open source code:
https://github.com/google
So much useful shit there. Also things like TensorFlow (https://www.tensorflow.org/) and probably myriad other things I'm forgetting.
I'm also confused as to why every single source file always has something like// Copyright (year) The (project name) Authors.
But it's always BSD or Apache licensed as if those even have any legal weight.

I think it's this. Puppet theater.
But it seems like so much time (and money, in salary), spent by some of the most capable minds on the planet, to just be PR? To get people to 'trust' them? (dumb fucks)
I don't get it. Unless maybe they realized they're so far ahead of everyone that they need to throw the rest of us a bone?
