explain please

Eset needs to do this in order to be able to scan content hosted via HTTPS, otherwise it would not be able to scan it until you save it on your HDD.

Stay stupid.

If you want ESET to be able to enforce antivirus and other security settings on your web traffic, that is necessary. Without SSL stripping, ESET basically just sees a bunch of gibberish when you're browsing to the internet - it can't tell that the transvestite bestiality porn you're viewing is trying to install Cryptolocker unless it can actually *see* the traffic, which it can't without ssl stripping.

I do the same thing at work, stripping SSL to all workstations, to block executables, zip files, run AV, check for data ex-filtration, etc.

I know why it fucking does it, but it doesn't excuse a literal MiTM

You deserve to be fucked.
>>
>>51883610
would you rather it to put you on hold for several years while it bruteforces the SSL for each connection?
>>
>>51883625
I'd rather it ask me if I want to enable it on first install, rather than just doing it

Well apparently you don't, because otherwise you'd know that MiTM is the only way for a 3rd party antivirus to enforce any sort of security on your connection.

Because normies don't know shit.

You can turn it off, ffs the option is even in your screenshot.

For the majority of people installing antivirus, this is needed functionality - web browsing is 99% of attack vectors, and being unable to scan TLS traffic (as most websites are beginning to use HTTPS) makes the antivirus program next to worthless.

If you really think you're smarter than ESET, either uncheck the option, or don't install it - focus on sandboxing your browser, enforce cert-based whitelisting on user-writable directories (especially AppData), run as a limited user, install windows and third party updates as soon as they're available, etc.

It used to be disabled by default in all previous versions except 9
>>
>>51883689

And SSL/TLS used to be fairly rare on the web, relegated to banks mostly. Now it's nearly ubiquitous. As such, antivirus products that claim to protect you from web-based threats NEED ssl-stripping or else they would be talking out of their ass.

Perhaps they realized that was a big threat seeing as most people don't know what it is and won't enable it?
>>
antivirus is basically malware you trust
>>
>>51883742
just like windows
>>
wait, antiviruses still exist?
>>
>>51883772
It's different. Antivirus software hooks deep into the OS just like malware would because otherwise it wouldn't be able to detect it. An operating system doesn't infect other programs to prevent more infections.

cucks still using botnet windows
