i played around with one of these the other day

there is no current modern browser that supports OSX 10.4 (the latest version which this thing can run) so you have to go with a firefox fork called TenFourFox to do even basic web browsing, and even then youtube is a bit laggy

it's a very pretty machine and very sturdy and well built. The hardware on the one I played with seems like it would still be up to the task of basic web browsing, but that doesn't seem to be the case

sell it to somebody who will take it
>>
>>51880948
gut it, mod the case, and put a real system in it

thought about that aswell, air flow seems to be pretty good.

it sounds like a jet engine going off at load though so I'd replace the fans with quieter ones
>>
>>51881101
Not much else you can do with it, unfortunately, since the hardware just simply is not usable in this day and age. It'll make for a really beautiful case, though.

You could also put the old parts up on ebay for like 5$ each and maybe make a dollar or two off it, also.
>>
>>51880948
if it has serial ata, just install loonix and use it as a server

can you switch motherboard and fans?
i thought apple-products dont allow that

Send it to me because I really want a PowerPC computer.
Realistically though, install old OS X on it and dick around. They still go for like $100+ easily on eBay, so it's not like it's worthless.

any G5 is great for running 10.4 with classic mode

get a hold of some music production software for a cool dedicated hipster DAW

max out the RAM to 8 or 16 GB and run it as a server/development workstation

whatever you want senpai, they do the exact same things they did when they were new

>>51881054
>>51881101
I've never seen a good looking G5 casemod desu, most of them end up looking like crudely frankensteined garbage and are ruined with shitty tasteless gamer kiddo hardware

if you're going to do it, at least do it with something low-spec like an SP 1.6/1.8 that has no real value anyway, G5s are pretty cool systems and will probably always have some kind of inherent value as-is since they're absolutely the best possible hardware you can natively run classic Mac OS applications on

the thing that sucks the most about G5s is that software that was actually contemporary to them isn't quite to the abandonware state yet, so they're not quite as easy to find good software for as OS 9 systems. of course, you can still hunt around and find shit, it's just not as convenient

still, if you can't find anything else to do with them, throw BSD or Debian on it and use it as a workstation, maybe fuck around with PPC assembly if you're into it

>>51885357
I want to shit on it so bad but damn, the wood is so nicely cut and it didn't even do any damage to the hardware itself

>>51887698

>>

How exactly? Most software hasn't really changed that much, especially everyday shit on the desktop, since PPC stopped being supported by a lot of mainstream applications around 2009.

Even if you could force install Leopard on a 700MHz G4, it would be very sluggish. You best bet it sticking with 10.4 or Linux if you want to connect to the Internet at all.

However, you'll need to find a good way to deal with the ports the NUC won't have, like the modem, mini-VGA, pro speaker jack and the FireWire ports. That might be challenging to pull off well.

You can. The 867MHz requirement is the only thing keeping Leopard from installing, you just need to set Open Firmware to report the CPU clock as 867MHz or more

Friend is in the middle of a casemod. Cheap dual xeon server off eBay makes a glorious casemod, the shields for the pcie slots even line up.

So many things you can do with them, fucking great design.
>>

Definitely one of the better G5 mods I've seen.

You could probably still preserve the clean look of the inside by fitting an aluminum panel over the board to maintain airflow, maybe even put some hard disk bays over it too.

>>51892071
Depending on how much space there is to work with he could just use the stock acrylic airflow cover
