I have used both android and iPhone (currently on the iPhone 6) and yes both have their goods and bads.
They both are phones, they both run apps (android has a few that I would say beat the iPhone in terms of control of you phone).

In short, Android has more flexibility and control over the base functions of the phone, and a bigger app store, but iOS does tend to be smoother and more responsive, with a sleeker interface.
Mostly its just personal preference and there are plenty of other differences but generally I'd just say go Android for root access and customisability, iOS (Apple) for sleekness and responsiveness.
