Now by 'gaming' I mean something with dedicated GPU, not necessarily laptop marketed as gaming or with gaming styling, etc.

I was searching for a 12.5" or ideally smaller laptop with dedicated GPU but only found Alienware M11x which went out of production in 2011. I don't care about aesthetics but I need it to be able to handle 2 monitors and virtualization of a couple machines + CAD. Not necessarily running simultaneously. While on the go, I don't need any of that power, just compactness and about 3-4hrs battery life. Aesthetics are not important. Used laptops are options too, but M11x is nonexistant second-hand in my country. Desired OS is Linux so this may be an issue too since Alienware may have a lot of custom solutions.

Only thing close to what I want was HP Elitebook 725 G2 with A10 processor which should be powerful in graphics department.

My current computer is from 2008 so I am a bit out of touch - would 6th gen Intel processors with integrated graphics or A10 processors outperform the solution in M11x?

Wew lad how much of a manlet skellington are you to not be able to transport around a 15" portable workstation that doesn't look like gaymen shit?

Get a chinkpad W550 or dell/hp's equivalent of their workstation lines or buy a clevo so you can buy more overpriced but underpowered laptop CPUs/GPUs in the future. You'll never find reasonably priced workstations in ultraportable format so start lifting fuccboi

Good fucking luck dude, dedicated GPU's usually come on 14"+ laptops because of the increased cooling requirements. If you do find one though do tel.

I have a Dell XPS L502x (from 2011) with a second gen i5 and GT 525m which I think is similar specs to the M11x. It could play Fallout 3 and Metro 2033 on lower graphics. It's graphics power is really low in today's standards. And don't expect anywhere near 3-4 hours battery life, especially with a Dell. Dell batteries degrade fast. I get that much web browsing and I have an upgraded battery pack (use to be 10 hours it was awesome)

You'd be much better off with a 15". The new Dell XPS 15 has that near borderless screen so it's 15" screen but in a 14" package.

this. gaming laptops cater to a certain market, and manufacturers know their market well. a dgpu lappy isnt going to come in an ultra compact design.

the closest thing i can think of is the surface book pro, which youll have to pay the touch screen and pressure sensitive tax for.
it seems like a solid device overall, but unless you can justify the tablet functionality, its an overpriced gimick.

The M11x was a neat little machine. Kind of the last fuck you before succumbing to integrated graphics in the compact market. Not really a gaming machine, it's a compact laptop with a dedicated GPU.

Wew, lad. Did I mention something about weight or money? I mentioned only size, which has to be 12.5 or less. Doesn't matter if it weighs 5 pounds at that size. My current laptop weighs 8 pounds.

I know, that's why I am searching for the unusual ones.

If I was looking for a 15 incher I wouldn't even make this thread. Dell did it in 2010 with a regular 2.5 drive, I thought that in the era of low-voltage, low-heat and small format SSDs there ought to be something close to M11x.

Alright, let me put the question this way, because you seem to only focus on the hurr durr gaming aspect:

If I was to buy seomthing like Latitude 12.5" with latest Intel CPU or Elitebook 725 with A10 APU, is it going to perform better or worse than second hand M11x in running light VM, CAD and handling 2 monitors?

My R3 managed pretty well until this year games came. but yeah, it was underwhelming considering it's price. Also, heavy as hell and heat management was nonexistent, so it went full throttle jet engine mode everytime i've runned anything on it.
Still, good enough for Dark Souls it was and that made me a happy, thou somewhat frustrated man.

from someone who loves compact designs and stupidly overpowered sub 14' laptops in particular - do not. Unless you are ready to pay great amount of money, anything in this class will be flawed by compromise.

>nice photo
ignore mouth foaming idiots, it's finals time, people with brains are mostly burried under sweet academia lifes.
Too answer your question, it's propably yes and no. Optimization is a key here, nonetheless quick glance at notebookcheck reviews tells me that M11x, R3 should still be a better option here. Nowadays pretty much everything is Envy-optimized.

Neat, kinda dissapointed they didn't go all the way and add a fully fledged 980 to it though. Or for extra housefires a Fury X.

The Dell 15 incher is the size of a 14".

Just look at this. It's only 3 inches wider and 1 inch longer depth wise. And it's lighter and thinner.

I just got the an ASUS ROG with a 960m gtx and a 2.6 ghz i7 that OC to 3.5 for $1000.
Im playing MGS5 max settings and Witcher3 at 60fps with minimal graphic adj. Though it does drop with draw dis.
