Where will you go when Windows 7 support ends?
>>
>>51871017
I'll be using GNU/Linux full time hopefully sometime in 2016.
>>
Honestly, Arch Linux
By the time windows 7 support drops I won't need photoshop anymore
>>
>>51871017
SteamOS for muh gaymez. Continue using OSX as my main OS (as I am now) for everything else
>>
>>51871017

Windows 7. Just because M$ drops it doesn't mean devs automatically will.
>>
>>51871017
Stay where I am.
The place where I come from it is considered perfectly okay to run an "outdated" OS as long as you have an antivirus and a firewall (mainly because everyone is using pirated Windows lulz).
>>

Stuff like KDE Plasma/elementary OS could conceivably appeal to normies, but they're still fairly buggy with those silly little errors that need to be ironed out

I'll use Win7 for as long as I need it.

Right now I only use it for Forticlient/Remote Desktop for my job. I play muh games on my Win10 Desktop, and I do everything else on my Debian install.

Linux Mint (cinnamon) is the best for normies imo, I never liked the menu and bloat of KDE. Not sure about Elementary OS

I've dual-booted many years now, only recently I got tired of constant ads on my desktop asking me to "upgrade". WTF? I was forced to pay for this license so I'm entitled to an ad free product.

When I left my PC turned on I heard the HDD reading/writing at night, probably uploading all my files to the NSA, I mean "looking for upgrades and security patches". This doesn't happen with GNU

I rarely use MS now, not even for gaymen because I hate FPS. I've pretty much moved entirely to debian now. I've installed PS and indesign CS 3 so there's really nothing I need from microshit anymore.

Where will I go? I've already left.
>>
>>51871439
At least the advertising ends in June/July when the one year free upgrade chance ends.

Ubuntu / Debian. I've been running Ubuntu on my laptop for 2 years so far and its great for development.

Desktop is the only thing thats running windows atm (7) so when 7 goes it'll be one of two things: Windows 10 or Ubuntu / Debian. This will mostly depend on whether or not game developers start working on more linux ports.

I've been around /g/ little and mint sounds the best basic/slim linux distro (I know very little about linus). How would you say it is to use compared to ubuntu?
>>
>>51871209
Mint is Linux's best chance at actually seeing mainstream adoption. It has a simple, easily pronounced name, it's one of the most "just werks" distros out there, and it looks and operates nearly identically to Windows on the surface. For most normies who just use their computer as a web browser, you could probably swap Windows for Mint and they wouldn't even notice the difference.

Are you implying that Windows is Normie-proof? Apple's probably the only major OS that is anything close. The fact that Windows users run around with Administrative access to everything is literally no worse than giving a retard root permissions.

I think the best argument against widespread adoption of Linux for desktop use is that it's not Windows and many windows application don't run in Linux.

This. I only moved to Arch becaue my hardware is embarassingly out of date for gaymen and Mint was super bloated. I run Cinnamon on Arch because I'm still something of a normalfag and want dat Windows experiencce, but it runs far better. I can only conclude it's Mint being itself.

Mint is a good Babby's first linux.

Fedora is a pretty good, solid distro, pretty bleeding-edge though.

Arch is for people who've gotten the hang of Linux and are ready to really get into it.

Personally, I'd go Fedora. I was using that shit when I was 8, still use it today.
